    Ebony And Satinwood Dining Cabinets

These cabinets took a long time due to all the inlays involved. The wave lines and circles are inlayed flush to the surface. There were 7 different wave lengths for a total of 53 to inlay. The circles were cut nickle size, and there were 27 of those. The side visible in the pictures was the dining room side, and those doors opened. On the reverse side, there were the same doors, but they were fixed. The upper cabinets had hinged glass doors on the side showing in the pictures, and mirror on the wall sides and on the section covering the soffit face. Inlays follow around the cabinets. Woods were ebony and satinwood, with oil based polyurethane finish rubbed out.

      Real nice.
Can we see some close ups of the joinery, please? I would like to know how you milled the inlays and some info on the nice counter tops, if you don't mind sharing. Some photos in the shop during fabrication would be great.

That project is cool right down to the flooring. Beautiful design and nice implementation. The inlays must have been a real treat!

Not to be a smart aleck, when I work, I don't think about interim pictures. I'm lucky I bring my camera to the installation. The cabinets are constructed out of maple and veneered with ebony (the dark stuff) and satinwood (the other stuff). No visible joinery. The inlays were done by making a plexiglas pattern, and dbl sided tape to the inlay color over the dark color and cutting through both pieces at once. Once through, the inlay piece is fitted into the background piece, taped in place, then glued to the cabinet. One of the tricks here was that the inlay piece had a slight stain as did the doors, so that had to be done before it was fitted to the field and glued up.

well holy crap, I'm willing to bet there was 5 of us all ready to post pictures of our completed projects and you go and post pics of these. Those are unbelievable. I could only hope to build something like that someday. Could you please take some pics of the next project in process. I know there is a whole slew of us that would love to spend some time in your shop. Thanks for posting the pics.
