Dads day gun box and case

I finally finished something!! Woo-hoo! With Dads day looming around the corner, I decided to make my father a case and box for one of his prized black powder guns. Actually, it was a box in progress for myself but alas, I've donated it to him in an effor to save time. It was going to be a chuck box for the lathe.

It's a case in a box, so one is for the gun and in fits inside the other case with the bottom for all the stuff that goes along with black powder guns. Tools, balls, caps, powder, etc will have plenty of room below.

Both boxes are through dovetails made on the Jointech, I really like that thing. Flocking dried fairly quickly although I did end up just letting it sit for the full 12+ hours. I worked on some other stuff while it set up..

Blah blah blah. Here is what it looks like:

The pieces that hold the gun down were turned on my new (screwless) Jet/Nova combo. I drilled the holes in the turned pieces off center so they're adjustable. Then I mounted them with a screw somewhere close to what I thought would be right based on the blowup I had to work with (not the real gun obviously). If things are loose or tight, he can rotate them because off-center holes.

That's a piece any Dad would be proud to own, Bill. Even more special it being made by a son.
I wish that my Dad was still here for me to make something for.
    You done good.

Very nice, Bill. Nice dovetails and a clever idea on the off-center pegs. You're dad'd going to be happy.

I know it's for position only, but the gun photocopy has a sort of murder-scene-ouline quality that's cool.

very nice. I really like how you made eccentric holes for the hold downs.

Very nice setup. Back about 15 years ago I made one for my blackpowder gun. I still use it but am embarassed to show it. It was before I started woodworking. I made it out of plywood using a circular saw ...... need I say more.

Dovetails look great, and I like the idea of the adjustable pegs too. Nice touch. He will love it.

                            The gun fits perfectly

After a scare with the post office taking over a week to deliver priority mail, he finally got it. Still in time for fathers day.

He said the gun fits perfectly, the picture of what I had to work with was correct.

Thanks for the kind words and happy dads day dads!
