    Couple of Beginner Projects

It's been almost a year since I've been able to do anything in the shop, so the last two weeks I've been busy and having fun. First project is a flag display case for my dad's funeral flag. Made from Hemlock, finished with 2 coats danish oil, 3 coats poly. Lots of firsts on this - miters, dados, rabbets and using a router (thanks Bargain Forum!). I found out this week that the flag even fits (my mom has it in CO, I live in WA). The frosted band around the edge of the acrylic is a forced 'design modification', but I think it hid the mistake pretty well.

Second project is a pergola to stabilize gate posts that want to bend at the top. Made from PT.

    Thanks for looking.

Looks like a fine job. Nice cover on the glass. I like the frost detail. Pergola looks great too. Pat

Great work! I had to recently do a similar project for my gate, but yours looks a lot nicer.

                        Karen,

Very nice work. A great idea on that pagoda. I wish I'd thought of it at our last house. I had the same problem. If you don't know it already - the mark of a good woodworker is not how little mistakes he makes it is how he hides them.

                          Thanks!

Thank you all for the encouraging remarks. What I've learned from this forum helped enormously on these projects! Gave me the courage to actually CUT the wood, instead of worrying about screwing it up.
