    a couple of recent projects

Stuff I've been working on, keeping me busy. I finished the trim in my office this week. Here are a couple of things that were of interest. This cable entry uses a dado through the back and a spline so that everything hovers above the "floating" floor.

This is the new window trim.

And this is my mother's mother day present. Curly maple top, walnut corner posts and edge banding, and birdseye veneered baltic birch for the body.

Let me know what you all think.

That's a very diverse range of projects - very interesting and well thought out. Regarding the box, was the use of thinner dimension walnut edge banding deliberate, or just how the design turned out? I'm wondering what it would have looked like if the edge banding and corner post dimensions were the same? Difficult to tell how possible that would be as we don't know the size, but it's a stunning piece as it is - well done!

Some beautiful figure on the box, Keith. Interesting design for the handle, too.

The boss wants the windows trimmed like that, but I'm not sure if I want to go rossettes or mitered corners.

I really like that box. I assume the corner posts have the inside corners cut out to accomodate the baltic birch? I have a project coming up and I think that is what I will do for the corner posts.

Nice projects one-and-all. A very nice range of projects as well. You'll not get bored doing the same thing over and over.

Ray, the edging was intentionally that size. With the lid off, I felt that it would look better than having a heavier looking banding. Perhaps with the lid on it would have looked more interesting had it been heavier. Personal preference anyway. :-)

Crockett, the corner posts are 3/4 x 3/4 and are flush on the inside with the plywood. I wanted to get a 3 dimensional effect to it, so I veneered a thinner piece of baltic. 3/8 was the substrate.

Thanks all for the kind words.
