    Kitchen bench/storage/whatever

We needed someplace for the young-uns for seating, when over the river and thru the woods to Grandmaw`s house they come....I made this out of red oak and poplar, from off our own property.....The poplar was stained with min-wax gel stain, honey maple, and the oak, just reg. min-wax golden oak....
The piano hinge & screws from Rockler, which I must say had very good service........A coat of johnson`s paste wax finished it........I had no plans to go by, just some measurements and a general idea from LOML.......

Looks great! I like the idea of storage under the bench. Hope the young-uns like it.

That is a neat design. I've seen a lot of different styles but I really like that one. Yep, very nice looking not to mention that it goes with the table and chairs extremely well. You are the second or third person that has mentioned paste wax on a project but I don't get it. What does wax do for a new piece of furniture? And would you use wax over a painted and then a lot project as well?

Excellent design and implementation. The finish is nice, the Poplar is as nice as I've seen. Even more special I'm sure is that the stock came from your land.

The design and finish are excellent. Poplar is generally considered 'paint grade' material but this certainly proves otherwise. I think the color variations in Poplar make for some interesting grain patterns.

It looks really really good. How did you join the poplar to the oak in the back?

That is a great looking bench. I like the design on the back of it. And the woods look great.

                            RE:- Mac, Don Ho..

Mac, I always use a coat or two of johnson`s paste wax on bout every project....It seems to amplify the grain a little more, and leave the surface of the wood smooth and protected,,,,Next project, try some on an area, after it dries and is buffed, you can feel the difference........

Don Ho....I made up the panels, separately, then biscuit joined them to the center oak piece........
I only took a pic of the panels as I was glueing em together,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the reply RetiredWrench. I'll have to try that next time. I've been wondering why people use wax. Makes sense. So a hunter are you? What do you hunt deer? If so what caliber rifle? I guess it's thick up there in WV so am guessing 30/30 Winchester or maybe .35 Remington.
