Hi guys,
I just finished building a couch table a few weekends ago for my mom. It's made of birch from HD, which (surprise surprise) needed to be jointed and planed. I didn't mind though since that was the first time I got to try out my new Tradesman benchtop jointer and the refurbished Delta planer I got from the Bargain Alerts forum many months ago. the top is just edge glued together with biscuits, then I used a Bosch jigsaw to cut the angle on the front. Used the Ryobi router to put a roundover on the top edges.
The legs are also birch, face-glued together, which I then used a flush-trim bit to make the pieces flush and even. Tried out my HF taper-jig for the first time on this.
All other joints are done with pocket-holes - the legs to the the sides, and then the sides to the table top (which I unscrewed 1/3 of a turn to allow for wood movement, I hope).
Stain is minwax Red Mahogany followed with Red Oak. Finish is a few coats of wipe-on poly.
