    Locking levers - 21829

I noticed that two of my levers on the SMT won't lock anymore - one in front, one in back. Is this a warranty issue? Can I order more if not? I bought the saw in late May, so it should still be covered.

I was reading about alignment issues, and figure I might want to address this before I go much farther. Thanks.

There is an adjustment to make them work once again. There are set screws that goes into an aluminum bar that opposes them.

You might also check to make sure the rollpins going through the levers haven't slipped out partially.

I'll have to take a look at them when I get home. Is there a picture that shows what I'm looking for?

The set screws are #29 in the diagram below. The roll pins are #31.

The set screws determine how tight the Miter Locking Clamp grips the rails. They also adjust for wear on the Locking Clamp. They will probably have red LockTite on them.

Adjust the set screw to get the clamp to lock securely but not so tight as to crush the flat spots on the clamp. Too tight may also prevent the SMT from sliding easily on the rails.

FYI - The aluminum bar that Black Walnut mentioned was a solid steel bar on some saws.

Another reason that your SMT is not locking could be the Clamps. They may be deformed from years of use. I suppose repacements are still available. I bought some from Ryobi years ago when the BT3000 was discontinued to add to my "parts box."

Link to the full BT3000 manual. See Fig. 60.

          EDIT ---
I reread your question and notice that you purchased the saw new in May. I would say to call Sears before you do anything.
