    Rear Shelf and Table Extension

Ever wonder what to do with those small pieces of left over rear rail?

Here's an idea. I used them to make brackets that support a modest rear table extension. Cut the rails into 1-1/4" lengths and machine off part of the t-slot on the inner surface of the rail. Drill two holes, about 1/4" in from each side for the bolts that will hold small t-nuts for attachment to the rear rail. The brackets are installed up-side down. Confused? Me too, so I attached several photos. Brackets have been highlighted with a red magic marker. In Photo #5 the nearest rear extension is about 14", the other one is about 10". MDF was used throughout and the brackets seem to be able to hold the MDF without any problem. Little or no sagging of MDF has been noticed so far.

When I get my shop back I intend to add sections of hinged shelving that will hang down from the extension. I will also attach legs to support the added weight of the shelving.

I don't know how many folks have extra pieces of rear rail lying around, but perhaps this will be useful to those who do.

    Regards, Steve
