setting up some cabinet production

Hi all,

I've been a member of the forum for a long time (2003 or so, lurking before that), though my shop activities have been at a standstill since my daughter (and then son) were born. Funny coincidence, that.

Anyway, would like to fire back up the saw. My last project-- which I'm now finishing-- was a mobile bench built from Danny Proulx's "Building Workshop Workstations."

Now I'm thinking of building some cabinets-- starting with some cabinets for the garage for storage, and then moving on to replacing my kitchen cabinets.

What I've got in the shop to help with this endeavor:
1. My BT3100 (stock)
2. Ryobi router (multi base) and router table assembly for the BT3100
3. HF 12 speed tabletop drill press
4. Skil circular saw
5. Clamping straight edge
6. Mobile bench (for infeed/outfeed support)
7. Sawhorses
8. Proulx's book on building kitchen cabinets

What I'm planning to get to grease the skids:
1. Another book or two on building kitchen cabinets
2. A dado set for the BT3100
3. ? (looking for input here)

My next few projects will probably be shop related; an exhaust fan (gable fan and filters) for airborn dust, and the aforementioned shop cabinets.

However, I've started to wonder whether I should also move beyond the stock configuration of the saw, particularly to help with dealing with cutting a lot of sheet goods. In that respect, I've been thinking of building a mobile base for the saw, likely with the extension rails, though I'm a bit intimidated by the lack of a clear set of dimensioned plans that would work with the BT3100 (have seen great examples here, but my comfort level is higher with an established plan). I suppose other alternatives would be roller stands? A miter insert for a cross-cut sled?

Any thoughts or suggestions on moving in the right direction?

Welcome back. Several members of this site bought a book, "Practical Shop Cabinets" by Tom Clark, another member. Tom's not around very often, but he does stop in on occasion. I think the price of the book is $10.00, and you can order it by calling Tom at 352-490-9101 (Florida). He explains in easy to read language and lots of pictures, how to make easy cabinets. He also explains how to upgrade the cabinets just a little for use in a kitchen or other places in the home. I recommend it. It's money well spent.
