    Moveable Rip Fence

My rip fence has taken to "adjusting" itself when I press the lever down. It moves left (toward the blade) about a quarter inch at the rear end, making precision pretty much of a hazardous occupation.

I checked the manual, and didn't see anything that led me to how to get this behavior to stop.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Don.

Its possible the rear end needs adjusting but the more probable issue is dirty or greasy front rails - did you wax the rails by any chance?

try cleaning the front rail with mineral spirits and the inside face of the fence locking clamp.

There were some posts a good while back on this, and I also have this problem to some degree. The suggestion at the time that I have taken to doing is to, as I bring the lever down, to pull forward away from the saw, which pre-aligns the fence. If, at this point, the alignment is out of whack, then adjust it with the two hex bolts on the top.
That being said, this is something that has started happening recently? Maybe gunk under the front part?

        Poolhound,

        Thanks for replying.

No wax. And I don't get that many chances to use my saw to get it very dirty, but I'll check (some clown sneaked into my garage and took a few important power tools so projects remain pretty simple for a while).

          final_t,

Thanks for getting back. It really feels as if the rail is being forced sideways from some misalignment at the back. I'll try your technique and see what happens.

I think I saw something on it, also, but haven't found it so far.
