HELP BT3100 Stopped SOS SOS SOS
I was ripping a 2x3 tonight and my niece was helping by catching on the other side of my workbench. The cut was almost complete when I hit a slight patch of knotty area and the saw slowed just a little and then it got through the area, but it made the rest of the cut apparently free wheeling with no power. My neice said she heard a couple of soft bangs and the lights dimmed, I was concentrating on the cut and saw or heard nothing, nor did I smell anything of burning or electrical nature.
My first thought was the belts finally went. After stripping down enough of the machine to SEE the belts, I realized that Duh 1) they were OK and 2) even it they were broke, the motor should still run and it does not.
I do have power through the switch since I have my router on the saw and plugged that in and the switch powers that OK.
I am going to check the brushes tomorrow, any other suggestions, other than bad wiring between the switch and the motor? I should mention that I have bought brushes because the saw has been acting up lately by occassionaly not starting when I hit the switch, but if I turn the switch off and rotate the blade a little manually and then try the switch again, it will start -- sort of like a bad starter in a car -- which is why I felt the brushes were going and got them, just haven't had time to replace them yet.
Do we have a source for motors if the whole motor bit the dust -- but I really don't think so (maybe wishful thinking??)
