blade guard modification + fence mods

Hi,

in the past i have seen many different type of mods that people have done to the blade guard.

Sarge, when we last talked you mentioned that you had modified your blade guard and also that you have a different type of a setup for the fencei aswell. I was wondering if you could post what you have done for both of these things (pictures and details). your help is greatly appreciated.

i know what you mean with time, man its tough sometimes to get all the things done on a weekend, and before you know it, there are new things that need to be done the next weekend!

thanks a bundle for the pictures. like the set up you have. is that bt3000 on its own cabinet or did you build it under it?

Thanks IR.. I made some Euro style "crown gaurds" from scrap stock for both and made Euro "short fences" from basically scrap also. I got into an eye opening conversation on saw safety several years ago with Sgain Dubh (screen name as Richard Jones is the real title) who is an English professional WW and contributes to FWW, Wood, and Furniture & Cabinet-making which is the leading English WW mag.

I walked away with a wealth of info and adapted the crown gaurd and short fence and won't turn on the TS without them anymore. They just make common sense and are a better way as far as I am concerned. They won't be everyone's cup of tea as it is hard to break the tradition of what has been presented to us in the U.S. TS market and told this is your options.. take them or leave them.

I feel there are better options and as I can't afford to buy the very high dollar Euro machines with them on it.. I will make my own for literally "small change" from the cookie jar and scrap left over from other projects.

With me sitting behind high tech electronic gadgets.. who knows what I did? The text was basically " your welcome" for your thanks on calling you and going over your jointer technique. You couldn't have chosen a better way to get your feet wet and gain confidence in your jointer than using it on cheap stock to build a work-bench. With that accomplished, the smaller projects will seem to be a piece of cake.

The BT 3000 base is built to go under the BT from scrap Birch ply-wood and framed with southern yellow pine which is quite stable for constructing any type of framing. Very simple to make and if you get clever the area under the saw can be used wisely.

I had one of those small, portable refrigerators under it at one time. That would get some attention with visitors the shop when you asked if they care for a soda or cool drink. ha.. ha.. ha..ha..ha..

Have a good day as I ponder my cyclone PVC.. "to ground or not to ground"..... that certainly is the question but the correct answer seems to be somewhat more evasive. Indeed it does!
