    BT3K Switch Extension

I didn't know if I should post this in the articles section or not because there might be another one somewhat like it on this site.

I remember seeing someplace where someone made an extension to easily turn off the switch from either side of the TS. But now I can't find it, and I don't know if it was on this site or not, or exactly how it was made. It used PVC pipe, so I made one that is not really like the one I saw, but it works great!

I used some 3/4" PVC pipe and fittings that were left from another job, and had been in the garage for probably 2 years or so. I didn't have 90 degree elbows, but I did have quite a few Tees, so that's what I used, to be replaced with elbows later. I did not glue anything, but things fit tightly.

The assembly is attached to the saw by slipping the Tees (to be elbows) over a piece of 3/4" dowel, screwed to each side of the saw.

This is a quick and very easy modification for giving your saw an additional safety feature that you're sure to appreciate at some time or other.

    Ed

Hmmm. A very neat idea. So it's not too heavy meaning the weight of it doesn't trip the switch?

No it doesn't trip the switch. But you do have to be careful when you let it down after turning the saw on. Otherwise it will trip it.

Pretty cool. I like the Tees instead of elbows on the bottom cross piece. It would allow you to stick in an extender for those odd times when you are standing farther out to one side or the other.

Very nice, Ed. How did you make the holes in the sides of the BT?

Thanks for the comments. I'll post it in the articles section.

JR, I removed the side plates, then drilled holes in them. Very easy!

Hmmm, we clearly have differing views of what's easy! I mean that 's a one inch hole there. In steel. I can hardly get a 1/8" hole cut in steel.

No, it's not a 1" hole. It's only large enough to get a screw through. The dowel doesn't go through. Guess I wasn't too clear on that. Sorry.

                    Aha! Mystery solved.

FWIW - I have recently drilled some holes in the case to mount a router table. Using my handy, and cheap, HF tap and die set, I did it all from the outside, without removing the skins.

One might be able to do something similar for your application. Maybe using hanger bolts?

Is that the original price tag for $449 on your BT3000? I knew I got a steal at $149 (after rebate) for my 3100, but I only thought it was a misdemeanor, not a felony!

Yeah, that's the original price tag. But I paid a lot less. Don't even remember how much it was, but it was around $300.00 or a little less.

However, I have to adjust the position if I move the rails, which isn't too often.
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?
