You don't want to use car wax. Most car waxes have silicone and if silicone gets on the lumber you are working with it can play havoc with finishes - they don't stick to silicone. I use Johnson's paste wax. Wipe it on, let it dry to haze then buff it.

I could not find Johnson's Paste Wax *anywhere* except finally at Lowe's - in floor care/cleaning section, not paint/wood finish section. Got it Thursday this week (Indiana). I used it on a ZCTP I made... not sure this is going to solve your table top problem though if car wax didn't help... maybe others here have better suggestions.

I never could find the Johnsons Paste Wax either and then lately I came across it at an ACE Hardware store.

This will probably make purists cringe, but I sanded the top of my BT3100 down to a smooth surface and keep it waxed by rubbing a soft candle on it. I just buff the candle wax smooth with a rag. It made a huge difference in the effort needed to push wood through. I did not sand the sliding table or accessory table, only the middle section surrounding the blade.

Johnsons isn't the only brand of paste wax, but a trick to help you find some. Go to a grocery store in an older area of your town, where most peoples houses were built with hardwood flooring. Grocery stores tend to carry it in those area's.

Is it Johnson Paste Wax or was it Jones Paste Wax? I found mine at Ace Hardware.

Nice job Doug except you can still read the 'Johnson's on top.

                  Wax

I use Briwax from the local Woodcraft store. The candle's a good idea, you can always pick up a block of paraffin wax in the grocery store. Just keep silicone away from your table.
