Sliding Mitre Table Adjustment

My SMT is out of whack almost 1/4 inch after checking it according to the instructions in the manual.

There must be a more accurate way of checking the alignment and adjusting it (I just don't trust framing squares and my old eyes).

I know the answer is here somewhere but after searching for the answer and being overwhelmed by 37 pages of FAQ's I am hoping someone can give me a guide to a relatively quick answer.

Go to the articles section and you will find 2 good articles that will detail how the alignment is done. They are in the bt maintenance and repair section and say for the 3000 but will do for the 3100.
