what size wood for the missing piece between blade and accessory table?

I have my BT table saw and have the sliding miter table on the left
of the blade and the router accesory table on the right side. Love the saw
and really enjoy using it. In the past I have slid the accessory table closer
of further from the blade to support whatever I was cutting on it. Now
I have my router mouted to the bottom of the accessory table and would
like to fill in the missing area between the blade and the accessory table.

I remember watching the DVD sometime ago, but now I cant find it.
I remember saying that a common piece of wood can be used to fill
in the blank space between the blade and sits on the rails. What is the size
    of the wood?

    Thanks again for the advice
and the forum. I have learned a great deal from just lurking.

Here is what I came up with. It rests on the top of the saw and is between the rails so the rip fence will slide over it.

I can do some measurements later if you would like.

      thats it!

that exactly what i am looking to do.
measurements would save me a great deal of
time. The height is the most important for me.

      Thanks again.
I spent some time reading the forums and articles and couldn't find
      the answer on my own.

What kind of wood did you use?

I used a 2x8 in the past but I'm not to fine woodworking yet. Worked for what I was doing.

A piece 1-1/2" thick will work, but will be slightly below the adjacent aluminum tables ... a strong 1/16" or so. However, by making the piece 1-1/2" thick you can use that extra 1/16"+ for some shims to fine-tune the fit.

If you could lay your hands on a 3/4" thick sink cut-out from a kitchen countertop, with laminate already applied, you could cut two pieces of the same size, glue them together back-to-back (laminate facing out, on both sides), and that should be almost exactly the right thickness.

            My filler is:
            22 1/2" long
            5 1/2" wide
1 1/2" thick at the ends

It is slightly lower than the aluminum table but not enough that it has caused me a problem.

It is made from 3/4" poplar.

Mine is only 1/2", or a bit more, thick oak, brought up to correct (even with other tables) height with aluminum angle brackets. Works great and fence slides right over it.
