    Where to buy angle aluminum??

I am making Rod's miter slot and the plans call for 2 and 3/8ths aluminum angle for the front and rear brackets. I am having a devil of a time finding it. I don't want to spend a fortune getting one custom made and the normal channels only go up to 2". Any ideas?

Around here in NW Florida, the Blue and Orange Box stores carry it. So does ACE and TruValue stores.

Thanks for the quick response. I looked at HD and Lowes here locally, (Dallas) and they only went out to 2". BTW, hang around their panel cutter and there's no telling what you can pick up for free. I got a very nice piece of MDF, about a 3 x 3 sheet, for free!

I'm not sure what you are looking for. Are you looking for T-tracks, U-shape channel aluminum or L-shape aluminum angle?

If you are looking for small pieces, try

        Good luck.

It would take about 10 seconds with a shear and brake to fabricate. Most of the metal shops around here would do it while you wait, for the price of a 6-pack.

Check the local phone book under Metal Suppliers. I get mine from Westbrook Metals in Austin.

I'd keep an eye out for a local supplier to (maybe) save on shipping, but I have to second the suggestion for http://www.onlinemetals.com/

I've used them several times and they've been great to deal with. I've found I can usually get what I want cheaper than buying at HD/Ace/True Value...even with shipping.

One tip: Be careful when buying aluminum angle. Some has a curved radius on the inside corner and some does not. Sometimes that makes a big difference depending on your intended use, DAMHIK.

Found it! There is franchise called Metal Supermarkets and they specialize in small amounts. http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/. Had just what I was looking for and at a bargain price. Going there tomorrow...

You know, I would have suggested them except I thought they were a local company up here in Edmonton. Learn something everyday.
They are a great source BTW.

Since you've found it I did not look but I typically start with www.mcmaster.com for this kind of stuff. They have a large inventory of fasteners and all kinds and shapes of metal at fair prices.

Made it down there today. Cut two 6 inch pieces just like Rod specified. A whopping $6.12. This was well worth the research as I was resigned to have buy $40 to $50 and have a lot left over. I think this internet thing is here to stay...
