    Chinese Hammer Drills on Ebay?

In a couple of months, I am going to have to have to fasten studs to my concrete basement floor. Except for some rare occasions, I don't think I will need a hammer drill again. Will those super cheap Ebay drills that cost under $5.00 do the trick?

I doubt it....but, frankly, you just never know. I looked at a router like that and I have a hand held grinder that is the same stuff....same color and look to it. The grinder is noisy but works great. Just finished using it. The trouble I have with the ebay stuff is that the tool you are considering for 5 bucks becomes 25 bucks when you add the exorbitant shipping. If it was just 8 or 9 bucks a guy could take a shot....especially for a one time use. My bet is, though, that drilling concete is going to heat that baby up in a hurry.

I would suggest that you rent a good hammer drill on the day that you need to mount the treated studs with. It will most likely cost you the same after shipping and you won't have to worry whether or not it will do the job. A rented one most certainly will make short work of it and wont cost another small fortune in burnt up and bent bits. This is how I would go about it.
You won't have to store it either.

        Farkel,

Did you consider using a power hammer like the Remington Powerhammer? It is powered by .27 caliber blanks and drives hardened steel nails into the concrete. I used one in all of my basement and wouldn't use anything else. It is fast and solid.

They cost appoximately $22. Here is a link to one I found when searching on Amazon.

I got one of those cheap 1/2" hammer drills from a homier tool sale. I really just needed a cheap 1/2" corded drill. When you turn the hammer action on I don't feel anything but it went a lot faster through concrete than my 14.4V drill did.

If you need a cheap 1/2" corded drill, go for it. Otherwise I'd go with what Stytooner or foneman suggested.
