When I saw the ad earlier today I thought those mortising chisels were for a machine mortisier. I wonder how (or well) they work by hand? Threaded handle? not too sure about that either.

I have a set of Narex mortise chisels and I like them a lot.

right below the mortising chisels, they have some hand chisels that look almost identical to the discount Wood River chisels
that I bought from Woodcraft around Christmas time. (now discontinued as far as I can tell)

woodriver had wooden handles, these are plastic.
Ad says that they are hardened to RC63 - this is very high. It might be difficult to hone or sharpen by hand such steel.

Tommy this is only half of a review because I can't for the life of me remember what brand I bought but I liked the look of those and I bought only the 1//4" chisel. It has a pressure fit wooden handle not a screw-on. I used it for the first time last week while making a valet for my grandson and I loved it. I used a block of wood to help keep me vertical and on my lines and it worked great. There's not much wiggle room cleaning out a 1/4" mortise but I had no problems. I even tried a 1/4" square for using square dowels as plugs and still no problem. Now I wish I had bought the whole set since it would be cheaper than buying them seperately.
In my old age I look back and realize how lucky I was to live in a time when common sense was common.
