Ryobi 6" bench grinder - $24.88

I think this is a leftover of the Black Friday sales, but my store has a stack of them marked at $29.99. Online price, however, is $24.88. I had my store match.

Now, the popular opinion on woodworking grinders is 8", and variable speed. I've not opened this yet, was thinking about mainly using it for mower blade sharpening, plus putting a final polish on chisels and etc. Can I get away with the polishing with a 3600-rpm grinder?

For those interested, this is a special purchase that doesn't include the light or cooling tray that the full price one does. Regular shields vs magnifying.

If it works for you, use it.. I need a grinder as well, but personally wouldn't bother with a 6" because last I looked the wheels were harder to get and in your case would be nearly as costly as the machine. I doubt at that price level the machine will be of quality for routine sharpening of chisels. For the occasional mower blade, well, that's another story. Question is will you have enough room to be able to sharpen across the face of the blade without bumping into the machine or the other wheel...

The polishing at 3600 should be fine, just get done faster than a low speed grinder! Nothing wrong with that :-)

Nah, the chisels would just be polished. Pretty happy with Scary Sharp.

Buffing wheels don't look too bad. Compound is of course the same.
