The Dust DeputyŽ DIY (Cyclone Only) $39.00 + $12.50 SH - $20 off

Oneida is having Special right now onn the Dust Deputy.
    $20 off

The Dust DeputyŽ DIY (Cyclone Only)

    Complete Kit

Is also $20 off. The DIY seems a bigger bang for the buck.

I'm not certain this is a good deal. It seems like one to me. It's just one of those to do things I never got around to, putting a cyclone on the DC and the Shop Vac. So I appreciate any feedback.

The Oneida cyclone is not just good it is great in my opinion. I have had one for a year and it picks up everything. I have it attached to a big shop vac which is in a big almost sound proof cabinet that I built and it sits under a bench with just a 1" clearance so it is a PITA to remove the vac. I don't even ck the vac anymore; I just empty the cyclone bucket. I have a HEPA filter on the vac and it is a great combination. I connect it to my sanders, near the drill press, use it to clean the benches and the shop floor. You won't be disappointed with it. The only downside is it sounds like a cyclone or a small jet engine!

I bought just the cyclone and put it together on a bucket. You will need a couple of short pieces of hose, 2 clamps, and some fittiings to connect to the vac and your tools.

I also have a vac and small dust separator connected to my Bt3100 and it works very well but the cyclone is even more efficient. The cyclone is a terrific product at a fair price.

I have the complete one (bought it when they introduced it at the intro price), and my father just recently bought the top at that price.

On the complete kit, it comes with a rubber gasket, that goes under it on top of the lid, to help seal, a metal ring, bolts, nuts and two buckets with a lid.

The top, just comes with the top, no ring or gasket. My father had a roll of cork (cork for a corkboard), that he made two gaskets out of. I made a metal ring out of scrap from a machinist's friends shop, and the lid we used (pickle bucket from restaurant) was thicker then the factory lid. I have no idea what the corkboard material, or gasket material would have cost (been a while since I bought any), or a metal ring, but you might be money ahead to buy the whole kit. (or make a wood lid out of a scrap pile)

I think the pickle buckets are thicker (and just as slick inside), but they aren't translucent (he takes the top hose off to check how full).

      Hope it helps.

So I can't really tell, but does the complete one just come with a bucket and a hose? (in addition to the top only)

Oops, I forgot to mention the hose in the post above this (I leave in on something).

Call me cynical, but I can't believe they're getting $40 for a molded plastic tube. That thing probably cost $.07 to produce.

I'd be interested in the $10 range, but the asking price is just crazy.

I feel somewhat like AceTKK about the price of the Cyclone. I would imagine that somewhere a company or companies are work on a design that incorporates a Cyclone type diverter into a single shop vac. package.

My workspace is somewhat limited and a combination Cyclone/shop vac. in one package with a smaller footprint would help me pull the trigger and cost is also a factor.

                What about Rockler

Anyone have any experice with this one from Rockler? I like the idea of larger capacity and on wheels.

I have no personal experience, but based on the design it should work OK for everything but fine dust. If you use one of these paper pre-filter bags in your shop-vac, you should be good to go.

The big advantage of a well-designed "true" cyclone-style separator is that they collect *everything*, not just the bigger pieces.
