Hmm, why do we never seem to have deals like this north of the border?

No luck finding one to this point, unfortunately. Very sad.

well, I ended up finding a used Jet 6" jointer JJ-6 for $250. Blades need sharpening but other than that it looks good.

I called and they said they got "Item not found" with the UPC number and the sku both.

However, I did drop by a local store and bought a bunch of screwdriver sets that were on clearance. Looks like they were the stuff that was on speacial for the holidays. I got me one and my brother one.

don't bet on it. i purchased a band saw at a HD that, according to the store's inventory system, had none in stock. for the heck of it, i started looking in the overheads around the tool area. that's where i found one, NIB, just waiting for me. post 6 above details the transaction.

calling stores for inventory checks on clearance items is usually pointless. personal inspection has paid off for me many, many times.

I misunderstood. I thought you said the computer showed stock but the salesperson said they couldn't find them.

If the computers all said 0 then you're probably right.

Whenever I'm looking for this type of thing I drive to the store and search the overhead racks myself. If I find what I'm looking for I check the price. By doing this I've been able to buy almost all of my woodworking tools for an average of 1/3 retail price (table saw, jointer, planer, DC, router, router bits, etc). Before I did this I missed every deal because I tried to call ahead.
First I visited 5 local stores before calling.

I doubt that happened. all of the stores in the Austin area didn't have in the computer. The other ones 3 hours away where old ladies at the reception and immediately said it was an invalid sku or that it was a closeout that is at 0 and 0. I don't see this being a slickdeals thing.

I wish! Our sales tax is 7% but certain areas are designated development zones and the sales tax is half.

No one could find the jointer anywhere and they assumed it was not there and not taken off inventory. I decided to look around and found it, in the original factory pack, in another section, on the top tier of a pallet rack. Even better surprise - on checkout it rang up at $94.03 plus tax. So for $97.32 and less than an hour time, actually got a deal.

No, both stores used the 12 digit inventory number - 648846050447. That's the same number on the receipt posted by Creaton.
