I picked up the Ridgig spindle/belt sander and tried to use the HF 20% coupon. clerk checked with mgr and he only gave 10% off since the coupon was expired.

$129 in the Germantown, MD store. I don't remember if any were in stock,
      though.

I finally found the 892 on clearance in another HD store. Turns out that the store nearest to me had one too, but they didn't get around to putting the clearance sticker on the shelves. Unfortunately, all the stores were down to the floor model, and none of them had the case nor the spare collect and wrench. The lady was able to take $20 off to compensate and so I'm out the door with an 892 for just $79.99+tax. Score!

If anyone in Seattle is looking, try Federal Way or Bellevue. As of last night they still have one left.

          New guy here.
I got the Ridgid router combo at my local HD yesterday. It was marked down to $129 from $199. The box/carton was really trashed even with the electronic 'anti-walk out the store bracelet'. I did a bit of whining and complaining and the nice lady in C.S. knocked off 15 bucks. So, with tax was $120.00
It's the old 2 1/4 HP model, with even an above table adjuster tool. [ An extra with the PC. ] Lots of goodies, centering tool, etc.
Seem well built, heavish and seem taller than most. The newer model is apparently shorter, but only 2HP, but that's not a biggie, by all reviews
Both models are reported to be compatible with P.C. accessories. Both have good reviews all round ...Not gonna be around for long.... my store had two, both gone.
          HTH.

          Art.

Also picked up the PC 892 a week or so ago, was on sale for $99. May return it, but that's for another post.
          Be safe.

          Art.

Picked one up at the Cedar Park, TX store for $129 - $10 coupon for supporting our local high school football team.

They still had 2 left when I left the store. 2 1/4 HP so I guess that is the older version. Is one better than the other?

I think the older model is better than the newest one for several reasons. First of all you get a bit more power. Secondly you get two collets instead of a 1/2 inch collet ant 1/4 insert. Also, the collet nuts on the older models are the same size as PC and use a 1 1/8 wrench. With a 1 1/8 bent off set wrench you can get above the table bit changes. The collet nur on the newer model is smaller, I think. Third, with the older model you have the choice of changing bits with the spindle lock or two wrenches, vs spindle lock only on the newest model. One of the issues with the first model with that the spindle lock had to be pressed in to remove the motor from the bases, but on the next 2 1/4 HP model they fixed that.

I usually shop at the Lakeline BORG but after woodenville guys post, I hit the same store in Cedar Park this a.m. Only demo in stock. Had customer service do inventory check and most of the stores around me only had one in stock, which was probably the demo.

The Round Rock store had 3 in stock. I was there 20 minutes later and got the last one on the shelf. Several other stores in the Austin area had 2-3 in stock but way south of me.

Ridgid R29302 combo-6 left in Sherman, TX

Got mine yesterday for the $129 price via transfer to the local HD in McKinney, Tx from the Sherman, TX store. None of the ones around here had any left, or only the demo models with missing parts. They did a transfer from the one in Sherman where I'm told they had 6 left in stock. I don't know how far they will move these, but if you're still looking maybe it's worth asking.

Now I have a quandary. I got one of these router and it looks great. The problem is the I bought one of the Jessem router lifts a while back and the router doesn't fit the lift. the motor isn't a screw on type and the motor is too wide to fit in the colors of the lift.

I doubt I can return the lift to Jessem now (since it has been a while not used) so should I:
                    a) sell the Jessem lift and make a router table plate for the rigid since it has a built in height adjuster that I can use from the top.
                    b) Use the rigid router for non-table use and get compatible router for table use only
                    c) return the rigid router and buy a porter cable router.

i called a local HD looking for the band saw (i know all about it's reputation). "system says we don't have any, it's a clearance item" is the reply for customer service. so today i'm in the store and i start eyeballing the overheads. there's a band saw wrapped up with a portable table saw on a pallet on the top shelf of an overhead rack. tool manager's opening offer is $150. moral of the story...never rely on HD's inventory system. it's almost never right.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

While I think most HD are getting better with inventory, there are certainly the exceptions.
Yesterday I discovered one way these mistakes must happen.

At this particular HD, they put close-out items on the back end-caps of the tool department aisles. I spied the Ridgid router with a price of $159 (no box, just the router) on the close-out shelf. Now,the router display section is two steps away and in plain view from this end cap.

I am not in the market for a new router, but for whatever reason I am not sure, I stepped over to the router display to see if the other parts for the Ridgid were there. Looked on the bottom shelves with the other routers - nope. Turned around and on the top shelf (short top shelf 6foot high) was a neat row of boxes from a variety of tools with the words "display" written with a black marker.

The Ridgid router box had avoided the marker somehow. Being a good citizen, I did my good deed for the day and moved this Ridgid Router box with all the accessories to the close-out shelf to be with the router.

                        Russ

The Ridgid Bandsaw, though it just went down $30 in my neighborhood.

                            Here's the thread: http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=52865

A quick trip to the post office for a blue borg coupon will get you another 10% off.

I just bought the Porter Cable bandsaw from Lowe's ($400-10%=$360). It is identical to the 14" General (except paint color), and I do mean identical - having inspected it at Woodcraft just after assembling mine. I bought a Jet fence off ebay for $60, a riser kit from Grizzly, added a 1" plywood top to the stand, a cheapo clip-on light, and I have a nice setup for just under $500. While you can get the Grizzly for $500 shipped, the table size is smaller (14"x14" vs. 16"x16"), it doesn't include the riser, and the cabinet is not enclosed.

                            Hope that helps.
