    5 Narex Mortise Chisels - $45

I just saw that Lee Valley is offering a set of Narex mortise chisels for a pretty good price. http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/pag...,66737&p=66737

I've been wanting a set of mortise chisels for a while now. The Lie-Nielson set is probably supurb, but I choke at the $325 price.

There are many times where I wish I wasn't on their mailing list. I have a tough time just ordering one thing. A good deal one one item usually ends up costing me a lot more.

I don't get emails from Lee Valley, thanks for the link (been wanting/needing some).

Now to find out if I am buying them, or if they are going to be under a tree.

Let me just say that I too often feel the pain of Lee Valley invading my wallet. The real advantage of ordering from them is that I've never ever thought anything I've purchased from them wasn't worth every cent of what I paid for it.

That's about right, nothing I have ever ordered from them has caused any regrets. (Well, maybe hearing the 'ole lady *****ing about another box being delivered.)

Those chisels only cost me $240 shipped. I also picked up their small router plane, a file for my augers, a large saddle square, and a few other items. Another Veritas hold down, their medium shoulder plane, and their large router plane got swapped back and forth from the wish list to the cart several times. I was able to leave them in the wish list, but I know It'll make me sleep uneasy tonight.

Ahhh...that so sucks.. They are good chisels. I bought them 2 years ago for a class I took and was only able to get the metric ones at the time. The price is really good for these chisels. If you need them get them, they were ranked quite well by FWW mag.

                    I hear you!

My set only cost $116 shipped, but Lee Valley threw in a bonus Veritas miniature shoulder plane.

That miniature shoulder can be pretty handy. I picked one up when they first came out. I'm not looking forward to sharpening the cutter though, it's really little.

My set arrived today. I'm really impressed. They are longer and much heavier than I expected. They arrived with a pretty good edge. With a little honing they cut well. I can't vouch for how long they will hold that edge yet. The wood handles add to the over all beefy feel.

It appears that they are still available. http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/pag...37&cat=1,44047

Mine got here a couple days ago too, I was impressed as well. The fit and finish was pretty nice. They wouldn't cut hairs, but they are pretty well sharpened out of the box. Very little work will need to be done, just a small bit of honing like Steve mentioned.

They do seem pretty stout. The only other heavy duty chisel I have is a 1/4" Sorby registered chisel. I like the in initial feel of the oval Narex handles over the Sorby. I'm looking forward to putting them to use.

Got my set last night; haven't had a chance to do much with them yet. I do really like the grip on them so far... thought looking at the butt of the handle, I wonder how well they are going to stand up to a lot of hammering - guess they'll get that 'beaten' look old chisels get Almost makes me want to order the regular set - are the handles on those similar? Right now I'm using a set of the blue-handled Irwin/Marples and something about a slick plastic grip on a chisel just doesn't do it for me...

Couldn't resist. Tried, but failed. In for a set for the chisels and the carcass saws as well. Thanks to all for the encouragement!
