Boy oh boy, nuttin slow about me!! Just turned 70 and just found out about 10 days ago from a very pretty young thing that was checking me out at her register and seeing my VA card in my wallet that all Veterans with the VA card {she saw my health care card} get a 10% discount on every thing they buy in any Home Depot Store! I just about fell over when she told me that because we had just bought 8k worth of kitchen cabinets but my discount didn't apply because it had been well over the 90 day grace period! I did have a sizable purchase on that day though and got my discount right on the spot!!! MORAL OF THIS STORY: CHECK AROUND AT DIFFERENT PLACES AND SEE WHERE ELSE YOUR MILITARY SACRIFICES MIGHT PAY OFF FOR YOU! GOD BLESS HOME DEPOT!!!

I think that the moral of this post was that as a woodworker there is still a good chance of getting "checked out" by pretty young things at home depot well into your 70's! God Bless America.

FWIW, both Lowes and HD will give anyone a 10% discount upon request. Just ask at the customer service desk.
They will also accept the Lowes 10% off coupons from the post office. However, those coupons have a limit (I think its a $2,000 purchase) while the customer service discount does not.
For bigger purchases (over $500) I ask "can you do any better on the price?" Have to talk to the department or store manager, but usual discounts at the HDs in this area are 15% up to $1000, 20% up to $5000, 25% over that. That's just the discount they first offer, though - depending on the item, they will often give bigger discounts if pressed and if they have more margin on that item. Margins on most items are in the range of 40%, so it's tough to get them to give more than a 40% discount on a non-clearance item.--------------------------------------------------
