IDK about you folks, but the first thing that came to mind was that scene in Animal House where the fat one was spilling all the marbles out into the street :O I was thinking, man these aluminum ones would work so much better because they are so light and slick, lol.

Don't order the balls, a tube, some electrical stuff, and a copy of Swordfish.

Why, for when your aluminum monkey freezes, of course.

So I browsed through this for a while. In typical Amazon fashion, the prices are all over the place.

However, with a little filtering - and a lot of clicking! - here is a small sampling of the stuff that I found, all with free shipping via Amazon Prime at any quantity. Otherwise, just stock-up until you cross $25.

                      3/4" x 24" UHMW rod - $0.90
                      Link

Skroo Zon file handle #8 (for 14" files) - $0.72
(the nice ones with threaded inserts & beech handles)
                      Link

                      Stainless pan-head 10-24 x 1", 100 pack - $1.24
                      Link

                      Stainless flat-head 10-24 x 2.5", 100 pack - $1.60
                      Link

                        Ok, I'll bite ...

What would you use a UHMW rod for? My only thought was something slippery for the wife...

With a lathe, you'd use the rod to make custom washers, stepped spacers, etc. Tons of uses.

Or, by itself, useful for jig pivots, axles, etc.
