    microsoft computer closeouts

Not wood related, but Microsoft is selling computers on clearance with some amazing deals.
I just got a quad core with a tv tuner, hdmi etc. for $499, next cheapest price I could find anywhere was $680.
    Here's the catch:
I found it on slickdeals.com, and they seem to be hit and run with these deals, you have to catch it when it's happening (I made slickdeals a rss feed). Sometimes they will last for hours, but sometimes for minutes also.

That being said, twice recently while other people were complaining about not being able to get through or getting sold out messages, I just went to the website and ordered, no problem. So if it says it's sold out, check back, I think they get people with 'buyers regret' and a few more become available after they are 'sold out'.
Probably best to go to slickdeals and look at the comments on deals to get a feel for it if you haven't used them before.
If you're on a budget and want something decent, it's a little aggravation but it can be a big payoff in savings. Best of luck to anyone who tries it!

Did you possibly mean HP rather than Microsoft?

No, it's Microsoft. Apparently they have a 'store', it was news to me too. They sell at least a good bunch of brands, I got a Acer netbook for $199, shipped, no tax, then the HP mini desktop for $499. There have also been other brands.
If you go to slickdeals search box and enter 'computers', you'll get an idea of what has been on sale in the past week or so.
No telling when they will stop doing it though, I was kind of surprised not to see anything there this morning as they have done a few of them in the middle of the night.

I see that now - saw HP in the title, thought it was on the HP site.

        Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry, didn't mean to leave that hanging out there. So many people on this website are way beyond computer literate, so I guess I'm beginning to assume everyone knows everything:-). believe me, I'm not one of them!

It's a way to get new information to show up on your home page when you open your computer. I have bt3 central as well as about a half dozen other websites that I use through Google Reader which is my home page. There are a lot of other alternative ways to use rss feeds if you Google it.
Basically, you go to a website that displays a little orange icon. when you click on it, it will instruct you how to set it up.
The advantage is that I have all the information I want to check daily at my fingertips, as soon as I open my home page; no need to go to a half dozen websites to look for stuff.
If you need any other info, please pm me and I'll explain further.

Those machines straight from Microsoft are really good quality too. They don't come with all the trialware and crapware that other vendors include. All that junk is unnecessary and it slows down your computer, that's why MS sells PC's without it.

Well, it's just the website really, slickdeals.net.

Once you get there you can see what's going on, it's pretty obvious how it works.

There haven't been any deals since yesterday afternoon, I'm not sure if that means they're done or they're just regrouping.

Oh I thought there was a single page on MS site with all the deals because I didn't see anything current on SD front page.

I don't think these deals were ever put on the website. When they know they have a somewhat limited number of something, they just send the deal out by email to their established database of customers or people who have 'signed up' to be notified when there is a deal.
These companies usually don't require that you actually be on their list to participate, so essentially what happens is that someone gets an email, decides it's a good deal and (presumably after they've gotten theirs) posts the deals for others to take advantage of it.
I just went to their website and looked at all they have available and it isn't much, so I'm guessing they are done with these clearance deals:-(

Now why in the world would you spend good money for a door stop when you could go outside and get a rock for free.

Because I can't afford a mac! The same configuration I paid $500 for would be close to $1300 in Steve's pockets.

I'd have all Festools also if I could afford them:-)
