    Shopsmith-10E/ER

I found an old Shopsmith 10E/ER at a local antique mall. I do not know even if it runs. Replacement parts? HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY FOR IT ? Originally priced at $360. Now at $170. Phil

I have an old Shopsmith in my garage. I doubt it's worth more than $100.00, if that.

the 10, 10ER and mark VII parts are unavailable. I would not buy one of these myself because of that.

I have a Mark V that I bought last year with a bandsaw and 6X48 belt sander. I Paid 250 for the whole thing. The mark V latter then about 1975 still have full parts availability. The upgrades I have made is the multi beariing quil and the ball bearings and urethane tires for the bandsaw. If you look at the original new yankee workshop series videos. he used a Shopsmith bandsaw, and the shopsmith for a lathe, horizontal boring mill, and large vertical drill press. I also power my 36" metal lathe with it, it gives me infinite speed control. I have a benh top drill press so that i only need to set the shopsmith up as a press if i need the longer quil throw or deeper throat.

i did not keep the jointer because 4" just wasn't big enough.

If you look you can find mark 5 shopsmiths for 150 to 500 on Graigslist all the time.

The going rate around here for a complete unit in good condition with some accessories is $50 to $75.

Parts for all the Shopsmiths, including the 10E, are available. If Shopsmith really survives, they can supply many of the parts. If not, a former Shopsmith employee maintains a good stock of parts and can supply virtually anything at reasonable cost. He also does repairs.

Edit: Here is a link to Skip Campbell's site http://www.mkctools.com/10erparts.htm

There is also a 10ER Yahoo group.

            Thanks!

Thank you all for the input. I think I will stay my BT3K. I have invested enough time building jigs for my crafts that work well with the BT3K to get rid of now. Phil
