While it is true this has probably gone far enough, Joseph Tarantino has made his point by gloating on other forums about his Craigslisting these items elsewhere, I just don,t believe we need it here as well, Here,s a quote of his from SMC, ( buy it and bring in a harbor freight 20% coupon. i found one in a HD for $279 and got them to honor a HF 20% coupon. then, on their own, they discounted another 10% as a price match discount. $200.88 plus tax ($217) and i'm out the door. with that receipt, i found 3 more at two other stores and got the same price. all were successfully craigs listed and sold within the week),I,m sure he sold them to Woodworkers who else would buy them, He gleems what he wants from other sites for a profit, This is what make me not want to post deals anymore and 1 reason why I do not post over at SMC anymore and pehaps here anymore as well, My postings were for us as Woodworkers to be able to get these deals for ourselves and friends who enjoy woodworking,Not to profiteer from them. If he(Tarantino) and others don,t or can,t understand that then perhaps they should move on to other websites for thier obvious profiteering practices

had the same type of experience last week with 4, count 'em, 4 new dewalt 735 planers. the moral of the story:........never, never, never trust the HD inventory system. telephone calls for quantity checks on skus are a waste of time for clearance items. if you want something that's hard to find, go to several stores and look for yourself. it's the only effective way to find things that are hard to locate.

if i wanted a 4511, i'd go to as many HDs as i could and check for myself by surveying the overheads. it's amazing what you find up there.
and i had just the opposite experience at a HD in yonkers ny (20 mins north of NYC). i spoke to the store manager the day the 4511 was reduced to $299 about paying for one on the phone and then picking it up (i've dealt with him before and every store he has run has provided exemplary customer service). he said don't worry, the saws were all in the overheads and he'd hold one for me. i decide not to buy the saw (already have a gray 10" ridgid TS) and forgot to call him back. two weeks later the phone rings..."Mr. xxxxxx, this is Fred from the HD. you still want that saw i've been holding for you"? i was dumbfounded! told him no thanks and went over to get something i needed. there was the saw, by the tool area with a tag with my name on it, now scratched out. his store is now the first HD i go to, even though it's 20 mins further than my local HD.

So whats the truth here, I found your post here over at SMC, and I,m trying to get my head around what your trying to prove here.

I could be just as guilty of profiteering from better negotiation skills. I managed to convince a Chicagoland store to reduce the price on the DP, Jointer and Band Saw, about a week before any store listed the prices locally.

My total out the door was $550 range. I turned around and sold a Benchtop Delta DP, 12" Craftsman Band Saw and Delta 6" jointer for $100, $175 and $150. Those are normal good prices, unless there are large quantities of new tools available. Did I offer that inforamtion in my CL listing? Did I suggest to anyone that I had purchsed replacement tools for around the same price?

Nope, and I don't particularly feel guilty about it, the tools I sold were priced well.

If toolguy hadn't purchased those DW735s then we have no idea of what had happened, would individuals been able to buy them or would another person have bought them all to make a buck on CL? We can't even know if the people who bought them were even aware of the closeout at HD.

If it was dozens or all in a region I would probably have an issue with it, but 4 hardly covers a large metro area.

Guys, lets tread easy on our opinions of what others do or don't do. The info has been posted to show what can be accomplished, not the morality of it. If you dis someone for making a profit, then you have to dis every business in the history of mankind.
This kind of discussion can only end badly. Let's move on a bit.
          Thanks.

Congrats on the find. I've been casually looking for a DP as well (don't really need one), but the N. TX stores just don't like to mark down.

Is it possible you could send me a copy of the receipt? Had the guy at the Naperville store call the store in Mundelien but they said it was still $299. Sent you a PM with my e-mail.

                Thanks

I was talking to a HD guy and mentioned the spat of recent clearances. He told me that HD has recently adopted a new policy of selective closeouts. Whereas previously an item would be closed out company wide, they're only doing so in specific locations, depending on volume.

He also said he's been directed to NOT price match other stores, so YMMV. It was kind of ammusing, as he was clearly ticked off about the new policy.

I guess it depends on where and who you are talking to. A couple weeks ago or so I asked an employee at the Pro Service desk to check the price of the drill press (thinking the sale price may be in the system vs. out in the isle). He gave me the regular price and asked what I was looking for. I told him that it was being clearanced in states out east. I just showed him a screenprint of a receipt on my phone. He said he should be able to give it to me for that price. He had to talk to the Ridgid rep so he could get credit for the difference so he wouldn't take the hit. I picked up the drill press a couple days ago after a week or so while he went back and forth with the Ridgid rep. The Ridgid rep wasn't aware of the drill press being clearanced at the time. The HD employee was great.

It seems incredible to me, in this age of highly managed inventory control, that at a nation chain store like HD the left hand has no idea what the right and is doing.

                        jschen,

Shoot me your e-mail on PM and I'll forward my scans from the Orchard Ave store. They made a stink, but I did manage to get all three at sale price in early February.

You do realize that the carts they roll around with a marine battery attached are their inventory system right?

I hate to tear open any wounds but I wanted to share my (hopefully helpful) story.

Got to Home Depot in Kingsport, TN around 7 a.m. Long story short they were very polite but very adamant that they could "lose their jobs if they price matched the prices for the drill press and band saw". They checked the stores in the area, confirmed that they were in stock, but the all still had the original price. They told me to just keep checking that until the Home Depot's in the Ashville, NC district (which Kingsport, TN is in) rolled out the new lower prices. "Until we get word from Ashville, none of our stores can honor these prices".

Decided to go 17 miles down the road to Johnson City, TN for dinner the same day. Asked the first employee I saw if they could price match the prices "of other Home Depot stores in Georgia?". He said "absolutely" without even asking what the prices were. We confirmed the drill press and band saw were in stock then he started asking questions. I showed him the prices that some kind member posted here (I saved the pictures on my blackberry). He matched the drill press on the spot but told me the band saw was a deeper discount than he could give without approval from HIS boss. I decided that all I needed/had money and room for was the drill press and I didn't want to wait until his boss got back from dinner.

Long story short: it took asking just the right person but even stores that have never heard of these discounts will give you the discount (if you get very lucky).

Best of luck to all who try.

What's the lowest price anyone got on the drill press ?

                                $149 DP1550
                                SKU is 430264

They have a couple of these at the local HD still marked at $299. I'm thinking about going in there today with the printouts from this thread and seeing if I can pick one up for 149.50 or less if I can get the $15 off garden club discount. Is the garden club discount still active on purchases over $125 ? Any advice greatly appreciated.

                                Thanks in advance.
