I just recieved an e-mail from Ridgid tool and basically they said they are just phasing out these older models for newer models. Also Home Depot is not the exclusive seller of Ridgid tools as they are sold on Amazon as well.

I base this on the way they (HD) killed off the BT300x.

        I may be wrong....we'll see.
You may well be right. I've been saying for years, if I were CEO of HD, I'd either:

        A. Aggresively market the stationary power tools, ala DeWalt's Wallace Kunkel (Mr. Sawdust) with clinics, etc
        B. make them special order
        C. drop them.

Those things are expensive to ship and take up lots of shelf/floorspace to keep in inventory. With their current marketing (setup the tools (incorrectly), no one in-store who can demo or educate prosepective buyers), I can't imagine that they sell enough of the stationary tools to justify keeping an inventory in-store.

On the other hand, I would think the current demographic trend in the U.S., with lots of baby-boomers becoming either empty-nesters or retiring would mean potentially lots of new woodworkers/DIYers in the market for tools.

But that's just me, I'm sure they're spending millions on PHDs and BI specialists to analyze that stuff. Maybe they'll find another beer/diaper relationship:-)

I found 2 drill presses & 2 bandsaws today while I was in a semi-local HD. All have been marked down as per this thread. I would have picked one of each up but I have my eye on a Delta drill press at the moment & had just picked up a DeWalt 735 13" planer for $270 today.

I picked one up today at the Parsipanny, NJ store, They had 2 more band saws for $184, and a drill press $140ish. The did however have the 2 of the jointers at $301. I bought one two weeks ago and am waiting the price to drop to $199.

You guys are too lucky. I can't find any BS or DP at that price in Northern California.

picked up both drill press and bandsaw up in Victorville, CA. They had them marked with a white sale tag, and had a few of each in stock tonight.

The Markdown thing at HD is on a store by store basis. I have this confirmed from someone who would definitely know. Not every store will the same markdowns. To prove that, I have been to the 4 closest HD's to me and have yet to see any of the clearanced items mentioned (Tablesaw, bandsaw, DP, planer). All of my clearance stuff has been things that aren't needed such as cheap flashlights, etc. I'm wondering if only the higher volume stores carry the bigger items and if possibly HD is getting out of the contractor floor standing tool game.

Thanks for the info, took the trip to this store and got a the 14" bandsaw ive been wanting... and there was the $149 DP1550, ... so i got that as well.
Already have a 15" Craftsman, i got on clearance few years back thou...
maybe ill use the Ridgid as a end table or something... :>

But seriously, it always bothered me that my drill press top was always oily with cutting fluid from metal work, or had a cross vise mounted to it, now there's one for each wood & metal.
I can justify the convenience at this price..

I think I'll keep my craftsman 10" BS for thin blade cueves and n.

Can someone post a receipt of the bandsaw (and the jointer, if anyone has it)? I may try to get a pricematch at my local home depot. I don't have a lot of hope that it will work, but I figure I'll try.

Price aside, which 15" drill presses and 14" band saws are better the Delta or Rigid ones?

Just what I was thinking. I know the bandsaw has its detractors, but what is gonna replace the jointer, planer, dp, & ts3650 that would give more bang for the buck?

No DP sightings in the D/FW area thus far? That's the only one I'd be interested in, unless they closeout the OSS as well.

DP Update: my nearest HD says the DP is inactive, but still priced $299. SKU is 430264.

It's done by district, according to the DM in my area. Clearance prices seems to move from the South to the rest of the country. Atlanta area seems to get clearance prices a week or so before they hit here, for example.
