Tools Direct(?) - Hillsboro TX Outlet Mall

Maybe this is old news, but driving 35W this past weekend, LOML and I stopped at the Hillsboro Outlet mall and found a new (to us) outlet selling refurbed tools, mostly Ridgid & Ryobi. I think it was Tools Direct (need to check the receipt).

They've got boxes upon boxes of Ridgid & Ryobi stuff, plus some stationary tools like a Ridgid TS3650 @$274, a BS1400 for $169.00, & Ryobi DP121L $109. I told LOML to keep checking back for a Ridgid DP for xmas.

They also had some Milwaukee, but they said they're discontinuing it there and sending all Milwaukee stuff to the "big" store in Conroe.

We ended up leaving with Ryobi brushcutter + polesaw attachment for around $140.

I go by there on my runs to Wichita Falls. Have to stop and check it out. Any good deals on Plus One tools or LiIon batteries?

There used to be a B&D outlet store there at Hillsboro, haven't been there in about 5 years. Could be the same store..... or not. Did you notice if they had the oscillating belt/spindle sander? And if so how much? Jim.

        Sounds like a Toolsnow store:

        http://www.toolsnow.com/

They were formerly Cummins Tools - known for their truck sales. Something went down - like the sale of the name to Cummins diesel, so they changed to the new Tools Now name.

Pretty much like Harbor Freight except as you have seen - tend to also concentrate on purchasing bulk refurb stuff from Ryobi, Rigid, and other well known names.

Just like HF, you get what you pay for with a $5 socket set.

Note that they always come around so if you have a problem, they are very good at honoring the warranty on items.

One other not well known secret, if they are out of an item, they give you a coupon to use for free shipping if you decide to order the item online.

Nope, the B&D store is still there, too.

I think Rav2 is probably right, that would explain all the Ryobi & Ridgid refurbs, I used to see those at the Cummins road shows.

Didn't really look at the One+ stuff, Don, but I'm sure they have it. I did look at the cordless laminate trimmer, I think it was like $39, bare.

The Ridgid impact drivers caught my attention, I nearly bit on the 18/24 ID and the little 12v ion combo (I think was $109 for the d/d combo). But I got mucho tuition payments for kiddos before year end and can't justify another another cordless system.

I did a little checking this morning. It is "Direct Tools" but the only thing I could find was a listing of stores at different "Prime" outlet malls. I found this website http://www.directtools.com/store/index.html but it doesn't seem to be associated with the stores.

I believe it is 'Tools Direct', and has no association with Toolsnow.com or directtools.com. It appears to be an outlet for TTI tools. I think you will find everything in there is associated with TTI; Ryobi, Ridgid, Milwaukee, Dirt Devil, etc. No Bosch, no Dewalt, no B&D, no no-name brands.

I've bought a couple of things there, but generally I find sale and clearance prices in HD are lower. Example; I bought the Ryobi green saw and compact drill with 2 Li batteries at HD for $99, and got $9.99 back with their 'Friends & Family' promotion (Net $89 + tax). I went to the outlet store the same week and they had the same kit (but RECON, not new) for $109.

What really surprises me is that there are so many RECON tools that they can stock a whole chain of stores. Most of them must be new with slight blemishes. If these were returned and repaired tools or malfunctioning new tools repaired, TTI would be out of business.

Some people say RECON tools are better because during the repair, they get better attention than the normal production tools. That may be so for some returned tools, but I suspect most of the tools in these stores had no additional checks, and just failed the final visual inspection.

Possibly, but going to the store, you don't have to wait and watch for things to go on clearance.

They also had lots of Homelite stuff, and vaccum cleaners, as someone mentioned.

The name is Direct Tools. I've been to the one at the Prime outlets south of Columbus. Everything this place sells is reconditioned tools. I bought a Ryobi compact drill a few months ago. Best thing I've done. This place is great to get a good tool at a cheap price. The tools even come with a new 1 yr warranty, which makes it an easy discision for me. This store in particular is now even selling table saws. They have a few of the BTS16 and BTS21, and I even saw them assembling a few late model Rigid table saws when I was there last weekend. I forget the model number, but it was the later model with cast iron top....only $270 reconditioned. Not too bad at all

Does anybody know where I can get a list of all the stores that they have?

I would like to find out if there is one close enough to me to make it worth while to take a trip.

If this is the same company, I seem to recall somebody posting that one of these stores is in Ohio.

Pa would be better, but for a good deal on a reconditioned table saw, it might make sense.

Has anybody bought a table saw from them and would you do it again???

                      Thanks,
                      Mike

Seems like there's both Tools Direct and Direct Tools stores. I went to the Johnson Creek, WI (off 94 between Madison & Milwaukee) Direct Tools last November. Lots of reconditioned Ryobi stuff plus a ton of Ryobi accessories like bits and blades at very good prices. Might have been a few Milwaukee items too, if so not very many, and a bunch of vacuums.

On top of that there was 25% off pretty much everything that weekend. Not sure how you find out about the extra % off days other than just to look for the sign in the window.

I haven't bought a table saw there, but from what I saw they seemed almost brand new. I'm sure you could call ahead to the store to see what they have. Might be worth the trip for you.
