Here's something to look into if you need a sharpening system...

The Woodcraft website is showing a half price sale on the Scheppach Tiger 2000 system, which is a Tormek workalike. Only problem is that you can't order one, as the product link is dead, and neither the SKU# nor the keywords work in the search. Customer Service says they have 226 of them in stock, but can't explain why you "can't get there from here". They're looking into it, so if you're interested, you might wanna keep an eye on it, because they'll probably go quick at half price once WC gets their act together. I've used one, and it works pretty good (even though I'm "Tormek spoiled").

I didn't even know Amazon handled them. That's even better... And I'll bet Amazon can actually find theirs, too...

FrozenWarrior sez that Amazon has actually been as low as $105 on these fairly recently. Maybe will happen again.

I think that one is very similar to the one from harbor freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=95236 which someone said was made for Scheppach in China. The writing on the wheel is in German.

This has been in the stores below $70, and with one of the frequently available 10-20% off coupons can get pretty cheap. Not right now though.

Having some Harbor Freight stuff in my shop, I decided to go with the German one from Amazon for $114. It arrived a few days ago, and I have had a chance to work on some wood chisels that were "in need of sharpening" read "one step this side of a pry bar".

Once you have the chisel in the jig at the correct angle, it only took me about 40-50 seconds of light running across the stone AT MOST and then about 25-30 seconds on the leather wheel and they were SHARP!!! I have no hair left on my left hand and am quickly working my way up my left arm heading for my elbow!! Thank God I'm out of chisels!!! I have jigs on the way for scissors, knives, etc. I'll look like Mr. Clean!!

All in all, I have not attempted at this point, any thing except chisels, but it did them very quickly and very well. I have no doubt that it will handle anything that will fit the machine and do an excellent job of it.

            Amazon now says "Currently Unavailable".

That's a shame -- I think when I ordered mine, they said only 4 avail. Hopefully, they will get more in and have the same price.

I wanted to wait to mention about it until I had a chance to use it, since the price had been mentioned previously and I could not have added anything to that until I had some, "hands on".

Point is I guess, keep your eyes peeled - someone, somewhere, sometime - will have these at a good price and they WORK!.

Interesting... I e-mailed their CS people and told them Amazon was kicking their butts. Wonder how many others might've told them the same thing?
