    Circuit City hardware

One of my boys called a while ago. He was at Circuit City in Schererville, IN. They were selling all their heavy duty shelving. I don't know what else they're getting rid of, but he got a good bargain on a lot of shelving. I imagine they're clearing everything out. If you have a Circuit City nearby, you might want to check it out.

I went by mine yesterday. They had signs saying shelving, gondolas, counters, etc were for sale. You probably could get a pretty good deal.

I wasn't impressed with the merchandise deals though. It looks like they are marking down from MSRP - and in some cases the discounted price was more than they usually carried it for. Certainly no competition for newegg/amazon/buy.com. I heard two different shoppers checking prices on LCD's say they'd rather go back to BB after seeing the sales policy signs.

It seems the infrastructure cost would be killing them by dragging this out rather than blowing it out for a "reduced profit"

The liquidation companies get a lot of mileage out of the fact that they're in there to liquidate. It's a *real* going out of business sale, so the deals *must* be good, right? I think a lot of people don't take the time to compare at all. Clearly they're not cheapskates, like we are

Liquidation companies get paid a premium for disposing of merch at a profit (or lesser loss). They'll wait till the last minute to get down and dirty, if at all.

Liquidators are also notorious for bringing in merchandise left over from other company's liquidations. When they advertise "Trucks from out warehouse arriving daily" they very carefully DON'T say who's warehouse.

And , yeah, their "sale" price reductions are from MSRP, not the originally offered price.

Saw a camera at 20% off, for $139. TWO other stores in the mall had the same camera, no sale, $113 and $109.

Just who is buying at these prices without checking? Does anyone do 'impulse shopping' at a 'closeout??!

Consumerist.com has several good posts on liquidation sales and this practice.

I stopped by there this morning. Like the rest of you, I didn't find any good deals (except possibly shelving, etc., which I don't need). All sales final.

Went to the one in Montgomery last week. Thought I'd look at the TVs. No deals. I left disgusted after I saw one they were trying to pull over on people. They had an HP LaserJet P1006 OPEN BOX SPECIAL for $160. That morning, I saw the same printer NEW IN THE BOX for $100 at BB.

I may go in a week or so and see if I can get some shelving. Other than that, I'm not going back.
