Lowes Hitachi 10.8 Li-ion drill $52 free shipping

Lowes.com has a Hitachi 10.8 volt lithium ion drill on clearance for $51.60 with free shipping. Amazon sells them for $95. Reviews on Amazon are good. Link https://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?acti...0DL&lpage=none

The link shows $129. Is the deal over, or is there something you need to do to get the sale price?

Edit: I entered my zip and the sale price popped up.....great deal, thanks for the heads up! Merry Christmas to me, but now I've got some explaining to do!

A good deal for a compact driver, at 400RPM no load speed it will make a poor drill.

Lowes has been giving out $10 off $50 coupons with your receipt. I don't know if that is still running today, if it is buy a pencil to get a coupon before you ring up the drill.

Hrmmmm....400RPM is pretty slow indeed. Most of their drill/drivers have 2 speed ranges and I am just wondering if this does also and they did not print it in the specs...?

I was so ready to go looking for this, but amazon reviewers say it's not good for drilling? So I guess only for driving? I presume that shape/size of the chuck is the reason - anybody seen it?

This unit reminds me of my Bosch PS20. It is a good lightweight driver, but drilling with it is a bit of a challenge. These little units (Bosch and Hitachi) have the .25 inch hex chuck, which means you need the drill bits that come attached to a hex shaft.

            Hope this helps,
            Russ

Agree with Russ... I have the Makita 10.8 set which is excellent and especially the lithum batteries. The slow speed driver is not all that useful IMO and I use the second battery in my set for back-up for the Impact Driver which is the cat's meow even though the lithium batteries re-charge in 15 minutes.

The Impact Driver with torque adjustment has basically not left my hand since I purchased it late August. I had bad experiences with early un-corded years ago and basically deemed them useless. But.. after using the Impact Driver at the International WW Fair in August to assemble over 40 WW machines I jumped on the set Makita had just introduced.

It is now one of my most used tools and I am in the shop daily... Love that little palm held impact driver. If I had to opt for either a drill-driver or impact driver.... the Impact Driver would get the nod and that is the consensus of most when this discussion comes up elsewhere.

I actually have the ps20 ( got it free when I bought the ps40), i just checked the manaul...."The low rpm capability of this model is not a deficiency. On the contray, low speed means more torque and is a definite plus for effecient drilling and driving. The low speed also provides more control to prevent stripout of the screw and damage to the work surfaces" ....

To be honest, I have not used the ps20 yet so I can't really comment on their statement...

OK - i drilled a few holes with the ps20 ( which I think is gona be equaliv to the Hitachi in the posting regarding drill speeds) - it's not that bad, DEF not as fast as a higher speed drill, but not a biggy either...

                  10.2 volt drill

Thanks for the notice, I picked one up yesterday. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was only good at one store here.

If I didn't already have the Bosch PS20, I'd pick this up. If you don't already have a small drill/ driver like this- I highly reccomend it!

Since I got the Bosch, my Ryobi 18V NiCad almost never gets used. I've drilled with mine, and driven 2 1/2" screws with it, and rarely have a problem. And if I do, usually I'll need an impact driver- not a standard drill.

Also, I find that the LI batteries last a LONG time, and charge quickly.

So yeah, if you don't already have something like this, I reccomend you look into picking one of these up.

So.Cal stores have $92 price. I have the Bosch PS10,20,40 so I do not need this but if you PM to the GA store I suppose Lowe's will honor their price.

Thanks, JDH! Got one. Two batteries included and 40 minute charging time? You can't beat that with a stick!
FYI, it was mentioned here that if your selected Lowes has a higher price, to try another store? I have 4 Lowes within 40 miles of me. One wanted $90, the next $58, the other two were the $52 price. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it! Makes me wonder how many things I've missed by not checking more locations!

Herb, it's weird...there are four stores near me...each clears out items at a dramatically different rate and different time...sometimes 4 to 5 months difference...and what is clearance at one is full price 18 miles away at another store. I was sorely tempted by the delta jointers that dropped to under 100 bucks and sat for several weeks near me...figured i couldn't sneak that item into my basement at midnight. Haven't figured the whole clearance thing out but makes for a good game if you figure out which store near you is the slowest in putting stuff on clearance. I found a dewalt 8 1/4" sliding compound miter saw that way for $115..months after it was posted here. There were two and i didn't get greedy but i think about having a second one as cheap back up every time i use the one i bought. (i think i posted its location at the time.)
