Glass for scary sharp or ??

If you have a Mervyns nearby you will know they are closing and are in the last stages of dumping all their stock and shop fittings. A lot of their display stands could make useful shop carts or shelving.

Anyway I was in there yesterday and picked up a thick piece of plate glass from one of the displays for $5. It will be perfect for a base for Scary Sharp. I have been using an old mirror but it isnt very thick. The glass shelf I just got is at least 1/4".

FWIW one of the displays would make a great lumber rack/cart but it is big. I would guess approx 6' x 3.5'. It has a center column and 4 shelves sticking out each side. Its very solid and has 4 big castors.

I got my piece of glass at IKEA - they have a section for damaged pieces and parts and had a nice glass shelf with rounded edges (maybe it's even tempered glass - I don't know) for very little money.

I use a flat granite slab, about 10"x14" or so and 2" thick. It weighs a good 20 lbs IIRC. I put some stick-on rubber feet on the bottom and hold my sandpaper down with water. Works pretty well unless you use cheapo sandpaper, DAMHIKT.

OTOH, I was an idiot and paid full price for the slab at Woodcraft. I didn't know any better--now I keep the granite where I can see it every day, to remind me that I really have to resharpen tools someday soon and remind me that paying full price is for losers.

I've got a 12x12 marble floor tile about 1/2" thick. Picked it up at the BORG during one of their sales.
