    Festool Kapex deal

i have to brag for a minute, and pay tribute at the same time. I was at a local woodworking store, The Cutting Edge, here in Houston. Steve has been a pillar of the woodworking community for years here. He is closing his doors after all of these years. It always sucks to see someone go through what he is going through in closing his doors.

Anyway, I was going to pick-up a mini lathe that he had before for my wife. It was the Jet mini lathe 12 X 20, and it was like 10% off. The bad thing was he had already sold it. My lose. So what do I see in the front of the store but a demo, but new, Festool Kapex. If you aren't familar with this saw, it is $1,300 of the sweetest saw on the planet. Guess what the price was on it, $900. And before you ask can I get one, there was only one of them. And I bought it, it was too good of a deal to pass up. Festool NEVER discounts, but wow, are they sweet tools. My wife will probably kill me when she finds out, but it will be a great death. I am going to make here a jewelry box off of the $7 music box thingy I bought her.

Even though it was a bad situation with the store closing, I just had to get it. That is about all I have for right now. Good night.

Sweet... Drool... Sorry to hear about the store closing though. Not a great climate for small businesses, a crying shame.

        it almost makes breakfast

Or at least, it should. Boy, is it quiet. Wow, I am not asking for anything for Christmas for the next two years.

By the way, the $900 didn't include tax, but it is still a great deal. I will put a write up about it next week after I get done with my wife's music box. I intend to use my new Kapex to make it. I have this really pretty black walnut slab that my mom got at a flea market for 3 bucks. It is 3 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 inches by 8 inches. My mom bought 3 of them, and she gave me one. I love my mom. Anyway, I am going to make it from part of that a pretty curly maple board that I got. It should be pretty sweet, and I know that my wife will like it.

The funny thing is that every one of my woodworking friends that I asked about getting that Kapex said that I was an idiot if I had the money and didn't buy it. I am glad I listened to them. Heck, there was even this lady that was trying to buy it for $1,000 away from me. I am glad that there is still honor in the world.

I hate it when people do that and I really hate it when the seller agrees to sell it to them. Glad this wasn't the case. Great find.
