Craftsman 21743 planer- $226 shipped... 10/17,10/18 only maybe.

Can someone please confirm this isn't just a quirk in my account. You'll have to make sure your craftsman club info is entered first before adding to basket.

Had already made up my mind for a different planer using live discount, but for some reason checked this out and added to cart to see discount. Bad move, now have decision to make.

With the 21743 and two random accessories from bench power tools to get the 20% discount (the 2" hose clamps for $2 each work fine for this) the total was 226.03 shipped (!!!).

Seems like a nice planer for that price, assuming Sears will honor the price in their checkout system.

For that price it's an awesome deal. And free shipping... And heck, since it's Sears you can always take it back or cancel if you change your mind.

Thanks for bringing this to the groups attention Gator. I have been looking for a deal on a refurbished planer and this deal on a new one is better than anything I have seen. The price you quoted Gator is the price that was accepted by Sears. As you mentioned you must log in with your Craftsman Club ID first.

I have the 21743 planer, and I can say that it's pretty decent. I didn't buy it new however, so I'm missing some of the accessories (mainly the dust bag).

I haven't used it a ton, but what I've ran through has come out smooth and mostly snipe free (user error). The power head raise/lower is pretty handy and the scale seems fairly accurate. The dust collection blower actually inflates my dust collector bag all by itself and works suprisingly well and even better when I turn on my dust collector .

It's heavy and LOUD but does the job.

for the price you mentioned, I think it's a great deal. I'd jump on it NOW!

Check your email - I got a cancellation after ordering one early this morning. Took several hours, but got an OOS email cancelling the order.

                you can still get this!!

Turns out the web site is OOS, at least in my area, but the catalog sales group still has them.

So if you call catalog sales 800-377-7414, you can still place the order. The price is slightly different, but within $1.00 of the online price.

                  I still haven't gotten a cancellation notice.

I'll try calling the catalog # anyway.

                  Thanks for the heads up.

Think he means that if you try to have store pickup it's out of stock. This is true for me too, but irrelevant since there's a free shipping promo on shippable power tools over $150.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I'm still thinking Dewalt 735... will have to make up my mind soon.

No, it's out of stock nationwide for delivery and out of stock in my local stores as well (Pittsburgh area)

If you try to order it for delivery or pickup on the web site, it will accept the order - but about an hour later, you will get an email saying that it is out of stock and the order is cancelled.

However, the catalog group - apparently a different business unit - has "plenty" in stock, according to the supervisor I talked to. She thought that was strange, too, but it is the situation.

So I am assuming the only way to order one at this point is through the catalog.

Hmmm. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to check my e-mail in an hour then, since I decided go ahead with the 21743 and just placed my order Thanks for posting catalog number. They confirmed Craftsman Club price, right?

Figured it was low risk, since my main concern with the 21743 vs. DW 735 was the CPI difference. Got 4 slabs of rough 4/4 Cherry that will tell me real quick if the 21743 is good enough or not. If not, back to Sears 1.4 miles down the road. If the finish is good enough, then I just saved $150 over the DW735+ext. tables!

EDIT: Got confirmation in e-mail immediately after placing order that this will be shipped. Did you get this and then get cancellation later?

Have any of you Craftsman Club guys try adding other tools to your shopping carts to see if there are any other mystery bargains?

Yes, the total was within $1 of the online price - the hose clamps weren't on sale, so it was something like $0.48 more.

They did allude to regional warehouses. I asked if I could order from another region, but they said it was OOS nationwide - sounds like they didn't really check.

I did NOT get a confirmation email - I got the cancellation email instead, with a subject of "Important information regarding your Sears.com order". If you got the confirmation email, you should be fine.

Or maybe they are just discriminating against me ;-) I thought I placed my order before DaveS, but I'm speculating as to when he placed his order (we are both in Pgh). Maybe he got the last one and I was a little later, or something like that.

I guess they could have transferred stock or something as well.

Anyone get a chance to try theirs out yet? What did you think, and what did the finish surface look like?
