Freud router set $99 at Lowes

Saw the Freud fixed/plunge router on sale for $99. Regular price $199. They had one on
the shelf and one in the case. Only thing, the case was so big it looked like a suitcase. Not sure how good the Freud, anyone have one?

Not sure which one you're looking at, but if it's this one, you seem to have found a good price. However, the reviews on Amazon (admittedly, there are only a couple) are not favorable. Also, my neighbor has one of them, and says he would not repeat the buy, as the 2-1/4hp does not seem to be enough grunt for many of his applications. He wishes he had gone for the 3-1/4hp dedicated plunge unit.

That's a great price on a very nice router set. It's particularly good as a table router with the fixed base (or plunge I suppose). I don't think the plunge is the best on the market but it works....$99 is a no brainer IMO.

Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

        Freud Router

I bought one on sale at Lowes about 4 weeks ago and am very pleased with it. I built a table for mine. The best part is that you can remove bits and adjust the heighth from above the table. No need to go underneath. I have also removed it to use the plunger base and see no problems with it. The reviews are not so great concerning the plunger base, but for the price, it works great. The case is rather large, but look at what you are getting in it. It has to be large.
Again, I am very pleased with mine.

Thanks for the reviews. Seems like folks like the fixed and have mixed feelings on the plunge.
