    Peachtree 3" & 4" red poly casters buy 2 get 2 free

This looks like a bargain to me. Has anyone tried these casters from Peachtree before? UPS shipping is $7.75 for me.

I was about to say that those regular prices seem awfully high until I really read that it was for 4 casters. With the sale, it might be a bargan.

I haven't tried them though. I've only used the ones from Woodcraft, and some total junk ones from the borg.

Those are the same casters that Peachtree always has on special at the WW shows, and at pretty much the same price. I have a set, and they're OK, but no way are they as good as the ones that WC sells. I guess it depends on what you're puttin' 'em on, and how critical the stability is.

My normal song...The weak point on most bargain casters is the swivel bearing. A single row bearing is used and they don't steer well.

That being said, these look to be the same type Grizzly sells. I have used their casters on light to medium loads, never more than half the claimed load rating, with good results. The price is good.

The ones I got at the woodworking show from them matched Woodcrafts, in the locking mechanism. MUCH better then Hartvilles. They look identical to the Woodcraft ones.

Perhaps PT gets theirs from a variety of sources, but there is definitely a difference in the ones I have. My Woodcraft casters have a wider locking "pedal" and a hinge pin for the locker mechanism that extends through the external housing on either side. My Peachtree casters do not.

If the photo in peachtree's ad is exactly what they are selling there is a difference between them and the Woodcraft ones I got recently. The main difference is in the pedals.

I'd stick with something like this (400 pound double bearing with brake for $7), or one of their other casters instead of whatever Peachtree is selling:

I've been surprisingly pleased with Harbor Freight's casters. They don't get particularly heavy use, but they seem to roll and swivel very smoothly.

They classify this one as light duty, but it's rated at 125lbs (500 lbs across 4 of them) and is only $2.19.

For tool stands that don't get moved around a lot, these are perfect. I build my tool stands so the wheels come off the ground when I set them in place, so they don't bear any 'active' load.

Let me preface this by saying that I am far from a Harbor Freight basher. I use lots of their items.

However, I haven't had the best of luck with the HF casters. I've had a couple that split apart when rolling around, although the weight was less than 1/4 the the max cumulative load that the 4 casters were rated for. My guess was that on a 4 wheel base, at any one time on a rough floor, 3 wheels bear most of the load and transitions can have 2 wheels taking the load from time to time. I think that the materials/manufacturing on some of the casters may be a little spotty at times.

At any rate, some of the HF casters are still working, but all of the Woodcraft ones are still working. There is clearly a major difference between the materials and workmanship between the two.
