    HF Sharpener

I'm sure you could run a die down one of the arms, but I think the threads would wear the hole in the housing.

The Jet and Tormek arms are not the same size, either - can't swap.

The Tormek threads are more like acme threads, whereas the thread is not sharp. It has more of a flat spot on the outside edge.

The way I look at it:

    - Tormek just introduced a short time ago, so they have been without it for quite a while
    - A little extra time in the initial setup, and I was fine on all the sharpening I did

Just as a point of reference for future searchers, Grizzly makes one for $170 and they have the attachments available as well. No hijack nor negativity implied. This is actually pretty educational and shows that lesser machines can sometimes be brought up to speed with a little sweat equity.

EDIT: In order to sharpen anything accurately you will have to buy the $45 accessory kit, at the very least. FOr larger things like axes, large knives and small knives (!?!) you will be out another $60. This isn't a complaint - just a fact.

They just did a review of several of the machines in a recent mag. The Grizzly won best buy but it did not sharpen tools dead square straight out of the box.

I bought one, but it is still in the box. Seemed like the HF unit was a bit weak at 1.1 amps. What are your thoughts?

From my research, it looks like both HF and Griz are from Scheppach Tiger lineage with HF being a detuned Tiger 2000 and the Griz T10010 being the Tiger's stronger Euro version ("T" for Tiger?). ALL are made (or designed) in Germany.

Not sure the HP is really critical, as all you are doing is turning the grit wheel. If you are leaning into the work enough to bog down the motor, then you aren't sharpening, you are grinding, and you will soon have a grooved wheel that will require planing.
