    New Ryobi 18v One+ weed wacker $40.00

For you folks on the board that use the Ryobi One+ system. They recently released a Trimmer edger that works with the One+ Batteries. It' a 12" string trimmer for $40.00 tool only.

As usual, available at the local BORG cube.

I was looking for one of these today with no luck. Are they with the string trimmers or in the tool crib? Are they the "old" blue NiCad system or Li???

    Thanks!

In my local store they were with the trimmers, but not sure if all stores have stock yet.

Actually, SCBob, the point of the One+ system was that you didn't need to pay for yet another battery every time you bought a new tool. I interchange my 18V batteries between drill, saber saw, light, and vacuum.

            Thank you NJ Frank

Tuesday I bought a Homelite Electric trimmer from HD.

I was wishing that Ryobi would come out with an 18v trimmer since I own every 18V+ tool they make. About 2 months ago I called the company to see if they were going to make one, but got a negative response.

So now I will return the Homelite plug in and get one of the 6 Ryobi's that my store has in stock.

This will be for my quickie pre-composter which is a 55 gal plastic barrel sans lid, that I place leaves in, then lower the string trimmer into the center and shread them all up for placement into my composter. It is a cheaper and easier approach than using a leaf shredder, and speeds up the process.

I picked oneup today; had to try 2 stores. I just did some trimming in the yard. Two thumbs up for the machine. Telescoping pole, comfy handels, handle flips for edging, automatic feeding string. I like my One system even more now!

All of the One+ Garden tools are usually found in the Garden section of HD, although sometimes they are not on display and you have to look up in the top shelves. I have the trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole pruner, chain saw, blower and garden sprayer. The trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole pruner and chain saw I rate highly as battery-operated tools. The blower is light duty and the sprayer doesn't serve much purpose. Any of these tools can operate on the NiCad or LiIon batteries, purchased separately.

Is it a similar unit to the Homelite trimmer for the 18V Ryobi system that was sold a few year ago? Got one of those, a bit weak but for my purposes much better than one with a gas engine or a corded one.

                    I wish....

If you identify your local store, the item lets you order online or checks stocking and tells you "Sold At Your Local Store" if it is available.

The trimmer is "Online Only" and "Backordered Online" which means no way are they available.

You can round robin entering various zip codes to choose your store. Either I was outta luck 12/12 or there are none in California based on the dozen zips I tried between North and South.

Home Depot sure knows how to tick off its West Coast customers.

My local cubes had them in NJ. just walk in and see the website is usually not right.

Used the little fella this week twice, and it works fine on my 50x100 property. for 40 bucks no compliants, just the non hassle of dealing with cords or 2 stroke mix is worth it. If you have an acre then maybe a gasser is better but I don't know.

This function at Home Depot has always worked well for me, the website is surprisingly accurate.

Search Ryobi Trimmer with Edison #944 on 1035 Route 1 South in Edison, NJ 8837 as your home store and the trimmer comes up as:

                        Backordered Online
                        Sold At Your Local Store

It is my experience that if the website does not say "Sold at your local store" for the item you want, you are wasting your time wandering the aisles in hopes of finding it.

I bought one yesterday in SC. They had four more and a few chain saws, although the display for the chain saw is in tool department but the item is in the lawn/garden department. Go figure!

I picked up one at my local HD. They didn't have them on display with the other more expensive weedwackers. Instead, they were piled on a facing shelf above eye level. (Another of HD's great Ryobi promotions!) I already have a wired one, but it's awkward and bothersome to get out the extension cord, plug everything in, do the work in the back yard, and then move the whole apparatus around to the front yard. This little guy isn't half as powerful, and uses a fair amount of a charged battery doing its job (it's on pretty continuously, after all). But for touching up the edge of a mowed lawn, cleaning uncut grass around the trees and deck, etc., it does the job and is really convenient.

I have the chain saw and found it to work pretty well.
