Harbor Freight Hand Held Electric Planer $40 thru 4/12

[Uncle Hook]

Anyone own this 3 1/4 Electric planer - Chicago Electric Model 95838? It appears to be the deluxe model Harbor Freight sells. I got an email coupon saying it's on sale for $39.99 thru 4/12.

I am looking for an inexpensive planer to flatten small logs for subsequent ripping on my bandsaw. This looks like it might fit the bill.

Has anyone compared this unit to the Roybi 3-1/4 In. Electric Planer Model HPL51K that Home Depot sells for $70.

[just started]

I have had this model for a couple of years

and it's worked fine for me.

I had my eye on the same planer, and had even printed out the coupon. But I happened to be in a Black & Decker outlet store yesterday, where I found a reconditioned planer for the same price, so I picked it up (along with a reconditioned $69.99 3" x 21" belt sander for $29.99.)
