Why, does the tax and shipping make it not a good deal?
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

I bought a similar one at HF for the same price on sale. It works well. This is a good deal, even with shipping.

What is the accuracy of the HF one?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

no, not really. i said that because for the price of one, you could have bought two if you lived in the vicinity of the store.

its one of those things, where the shipping ends up being the cost to buy.

It wasn't too bad, $29+. Got it in 2 days. Instructions are about par for things these days, sparse. Made in China (is anyone surprised?), but it seems pretty good, haven't checked it for dead on accuracy yet, they claim .5, and the battery life of 2,000 hours if true will probably outlive me!

I ordered two of the Lee Valley units and received them today. They seem very nice and when checked against my Wixey angle gauge were right on.

                          I think it's a good investment. Plus, it's a neat new toy!
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

No mention of a brand, no waranty included, so I did a little research.

Manufacturers website : gemred.com, not a lot of info there, other than showing 3 different models, all looking very similar.

                            reviewed at: http://www.onlinetoolreviews.com/rev...nglefinder.htm

                            Review was very positive.

They show 3 'different' ones, the center one looks like whay I got (not red/orange), but there are features that are listed on the third one to the right included. Maybe we got the best of both worlds??
. However, I did learn that abs stands for ALTERNATIVE BEVEL SETTING , which I assume means the difference between absolute and relative measurement, but I'm not sure what that means. Anyone help with that?

                              Hi Herb,

I'm not sure this is correct but I'll take a stab at it.

I looked at the manual for the unit on the Gemred site.
                              http://web.ytnetwork.cn/gemred1/main/home/img/1A.htm

Is the ABS setting similar to the 'tare' setting on a shipping scale? No matter what your current angle is, you can set the read out to zero, then when you change the angle you are able to know the difference between that original angle and the new one.

Looks like Gemred tried to save money by using a non-native speaker to translate their manual into English. <sigh>

Am I reading your question correctly or did I miss the point entirely? I'm intrigued by this gadget but have not ordered one.

                              Dave
