      Tax Act is FREE!

For the last several years I have filed my income tax using Tax Act, which is FREE at www.taxact.com It works great and they retain your previous year's tax return which simplifies doing the current return.

Just like to add a little to this. I have used TaxAct for the last 4 or 5 years with no problems. It does cost to E-file, which they all do I believe. I did my taxes with both taxact and turbotax this year and turbotax said I had a $300 bigger return. also it now costs some money if you want to go back and look at last years returns on taxact if that is what you used. So I don't recommend taxact anymore. JMHO though.

God Bless you for doing your taxes twice, I hate doing them once.
You deserve the $300, thanks for the post. I used Tubo Tax and have for years, its easy.

I've used TurboTax since it first came out years ago. Gets easier every year, especially if you also use Quicken. I've had friends who have used other programs find a higher refund with TT also when we double checked. They're converts.

I'm gonna give "Tax Cut" a shot. I've tried Tax Act online, and Turbo Tax. Both worked, neither were overly intuitive to this warped brain, and TT was quite expensive by the time you're done with the cost of the download, plus the cost of filings....and then you get to repay that every year. I'll try to give an update on how I thought Tax Cut compares.

Why doesn't the IRS have a site with updated software to access where you can pay by the filing?

We have used Turbo Tax the last few years. Only seems to take part of one evening. I normally do it online first as soon as I get all our w-2's and then depending on the amount of refund or our tax liability I buy the program at a local store. If we are getting a refund I file soon, if we owe additional taxes I wait to almost the cutoff.
