Jet Slow Speed Wet Sharpener $143 + $25 Gift Card

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that if you buy a Jet 708015PK JSSG-10 Slow Speed Wet Sharpener today from Amazon at $167 (free shipping) you get a $25 dollar rebate and a $25 dollar gift card.

    email sent out today:

you can follow the links on this page and have this email sent to you by filling in a page

    and

Now for you savvy deal buyers. Today I printed out the amazon invoice that says "order placed: November 21, 2007". But further down near the description is says "Shipped on November 23, 2007"

So would I be able to claim the $25 rebate based on the fact that the item shipped on the 23rd and my CC gets billed on the 23rd?

The sharpener isnt one of the qualifying items, only the items that have a giftcard symbol and amount next to them, from what i can tell

I believe your right. I was just assuming it was in a column with the jointer at the top of the flyer. But in the sharpeners page 12 it does not actually say $25 gift card where it does for the jointer. The "Gift Card" at the top of page 12 is just part of the promo title.

I guess only the $25 rebate is valid. Sorry. Still not a bad deal.

EDIT: AMAZON DEAL OVER: NOW $399
You can still get the Jet rebate though...and the amazon webpage says: Only 2 left in stock--order soon.

I was just going to order and then my cart changed, I love the amazon deals but hate that you have no idea as to when they will end.
The Worksharp may actually be a better option as with all the Jigs needed for the jet , only 1 grit ,water needed and the cost of $40 alone for the diamond tool just to keep the stone true. The stone is $80 as well.

Worksharp will also be coming out with a retro upgrade work around to sharpen blades wider than 2". This should be out first quarter 2008. I assume it will be a jig on top of the unit.

You might look into the Scheppach Tiger for $118, I think it takes the Jet and Tormek jigs as well. Check your Gold Box, the Scheppach was in mine yesterday for $112 Free Ship...almost the price of a new stone. I read that the Stone is of very good quality. I like the ideas of these type of sharpeners for the ability to do knife blade type tools and such. There are no bad reviews about the Scheppach's quality made in Germany, only that the stone is a tad smaller and it won't take the Tormek planer jig.

What do you think, Worksharp or the Tiger unit?

Tiger is certainly has more options for sharpening. The couple people I know who have the Worksharp love it. There are many who don't own it who poop on it. These are mostly woodnet types who believe everything should be done on oil stones freehand or you are not cool. I personally like the concept of the Worksharp. I saw a demo at Grizzly a few months ago and was impressed by the quality of the edge when compared with the speed of acheiving the edge. Certainly if you have a lot of time, money and effort Tormec/Tiger/Jet followed by hand honing, etc will give you a better edge, at least for the first 30 seconds of a cut. Then I would say the sharpness would be pretty equal. I played with the Worksharp at WC yesterday and noted that it is a lot heavier and well made than I thought. I am giving serious consideration to the Worksharp, especially knowing they will have a 2" plus blade option in the future (not that I currently have a > 2" blade or chisel right now!). I think Hartville still has 20% off and free shipping with the woodnet discount which would make it $160. Cheapest I ever saw the Worksharp was a Hartville during a daily special for $150.

Do you do knives, kitchen etc., freehand with the worksharp? I read the man. online and no mention of that.
