    HF 8" jointer

It looks like it is on sale for 399.00 right now. It is special order to store with no shipping. You may be able to use a coupon if you can find one.(2007 Entertainment coupon book has a 10% off). That puts it at about $360. That is not bad for any 8" jointer.

I would rather go with Rikon which is on sale at woodcraft for 499-100$ rebate = 399 + tax. Much better value.

The Rikon is a 6" while Messmaker is talking about the 8" HF unit.

I've often wondered about the fence on the HF unit. It looks kind of short. Othersise it looks like a great deal.

At 52" long, the overall table length on this jointer is much shorter than most 8" jointers. That being said, for someone who doesn't regularly end or face joint longer boards this jointer offers many of the advantages of more expensive 8" units. It's still wider and longer than most 6" jointers.

Not meaning to steal the thread but I always thought I'd like to upgrade my 6" jointer to an 8" for added capacity. I work in a space constrained garage/shop and was surprised to find out, for instance, a Delta 8" jointer is as long as my Unisaw w/50" extension table!

This is too pricey, but, would fit nicely in my shop:

Longer is better... (now where have I heard that before???) But load/unload and setup can be a PITA with a long bed jointer. Neighbor got a 12" Grizz, and it took 4 guys to get it off the truck and set it up.
