    BORG Finishing Deals

I was in Lowes, Hazelton PA location and found a lot of finishing products being cleared out. Included was oil and water based Varathane sanding sealer, Olympic rattle cans of oil and water based poly, small pints of finish, stains, etc. Varathane Danish Oil.

All were at least 50% off.

Edit : THANKS Woodwerker! Checked my receipt and it was LOWES !

Something weird here, I was in the Lowes in Philly today and they were clearing out the exact same stuff. Cans of their satin and gloss varathane stain for $3.99
Every tool you own is broken, you just don't know it yet :-)

I picked up several of the Olympic semi-gloss and satin rattle cans, ~$3 a can. Didn't really like the way the semi-gloss just sputtered out. The finish turned out OK, but you have to be very careful so as not have runs or drips. It dries pretty slow also. Deft is my preferred brand. I seems to spray a much finer mist that is easier to control and dries a lot faster. I will try the satin this weekend, hope it goes on better.

I picked up a spray can of Olympic Gloss poly for a couple red oak floor transitions. I dont normally use gloss finishes and didnt want to load HVLP and clean up for a couple feet of transition pieces. I thought is flowed pretty decently and dried fine.

Deft is known for its lacquer products. Are you comparing Deft spray lacquer versus poly? Lacquer is easier to spray, dries faster and is easier to repair than poly. Poly is generally tougher.

I am a finishing fanatic and thought the product was decent for spray can poly.

            Update:

I tried the satin finish Olympic and it seemed to spray much better. The Deft I had was the polyurethane. Also to note, last Saturday I was at Lowes again and they had the Olympic water-based spray finishes for $1.75 in all 3 flavors (regular price $9.97). I picked up a couple of cans of each. Have never used the water based sprays before, but for a $1.75 a can, it seems like a good time to try!
