DEWALT DW618 2-1/4 HP Electronic Variable Speed Fixed Base Router $118 at Amazon

The price on this has been continually dropping, so it may be a good idea to track the price if you order it now in case it drops further.

I have this unit and it's pretty sweet. This is coming from a guy who graduated from a 30 year old Cratsman so I guess it doesn't carry a lot of weight. The soft start alone is great but ad to that the variable speed and over two horses of power it does everything I ask.
    Blessings,

Yes, I have the 3 base version of this router and I would agree it is a nice handheld router. It even doubles for light router table work when my Milwaukee is tied up.

How long have you had it? I really like this router, too (I have the 3-base kit), but I'm getting worried after reading the recent reviews on Amazon. They're talking about failures from multiple parts and I'm wondering if it's a good router for a table at all.

It's a great router as a hand-held so far, though. The soft start is great, the ergonomics is great. I don't rely on the height adjustment scales. The plunge router height adjustment is not exact, although I haven't tried tinkering with the screws yet. The D-handle is pretty awesome. I almost jumped on buying this second motor, but the reviews are really holding me back.
