IRWIN Strait-Line 2035105 72-Inch Box Beam Level $25 at Amazon!

    Now OOS at Amazon.

Seems to be about $80 cheaper than most places. Part of thier Friday sale. Nice of them to make it $25 instead of $24.99 for those w/o prime...

Good find. Your link shows up at $120 so either go to used/new from $25 or try this link. Amazon has them at $25 while supplies last:

What if there is no tomorrow?....there wasn't one today!

Here is an interesting Amazon observation. I initally placed an order with Amazon for a single level and paid with a credit card. At the time of order it stated that the level would ship in 3-6 weeks (or maybe 2-3 weeks, I can't remember). After the initial order I placed 2 more (as possible gifts) and selected to pay by check. Pay by check allows you to place an item on hold for 3 months while Amazon waits for your check. You can always change the payment method to a credit card or cancel the item. I decided that I indeed did want these other levels so I changed the payment method this morning. The orders that I initally selected to pay by check immediately vhanged to "shipping soon" with a delivery estimate of September 5th (2 day prime shipping). The original order I placed with the CC indicates a delivery date of "September 26, 2007 - October 3, 2007".

This isn't the first time items that initally had a long wait time have shipped faster after changing the payment method from check to CC. The same thing happened with some Hitachi Drill presses I ordered for $50 each.

So does changing your payment method somehow bump you up ion the shipping queue if they sell more than they have in stock of a certain item? Interesting...

I've not had any experience with Amazon cancelling an order. I did have it happen with one of their merchants, but not the big A.

I got a good deal on a Bostitch nail gun from Amazon with the 4 week shipping wait notice but it shipped immediately.

I can live without a 6 foot level, so if the big A doesn't come through I will just complain to them a bit (to no avail, I am sure), and do without.

I'm going to predict that once the price is back to normal, they will suddenly be back in stock with Amazon. I assume that will be tomorrow since this was part of the Friday sale.

I have placed many, many orders with Amazon in the last couple years. I never had a cancellation until the last couple months. Powermatic shaper normally $2700 for $450 got cancelled. Some folks shipped.

As far as these small items, this is where being Amazon Prime pays off. I got Prime membership and $80 credit toward Amazon toys for $80 (basically free Prime) last year at Christmas. Hope they run a deal like that again. Of course Prime does not help on large tool purchases as they are not subject to Prime 2 day shipping since it is freight.

I ordered one of these yesterday at the $25 price and it was estimated to ship between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4. I got an e-mail today saying it shipped already. I think that's a pretty good sign.

No change in my order status yet, but you give me hope.

Received an update from Amazon on this order:

We're writing about the order you placed on August 31 2007 05:50 PDT (Order#........ Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered:

                      "IRWIN Strait-Line 2035105 72-Inch Box Beam Level"
                      Estimated arrival date: 10/11/2007 - 10/26/2007

Looks like Amazon has every intention of keeping their end of the bargain when they receive these in. Just taking a bit longer for them to replenish their stock.
