Great table saw buy

Just got a Delta 36-731 table saw from Amazon. Comes with Delta 50" unifence and 2 cast iron table extensions. Shipped in great condition in less than a week. When I ordered this mid-Aug the price was $885, which I considered to be very good. Today's price is $685!!! I think it might be worth it just as scrap metal!

Call Amazon Customer Service and ask for a credit based on the new lower price.

Question for you? I'd heard there were problems making ZCTP for this saw because of the throat plate design. Have you seen that?

They sometimes will after the fact. I just keep an eye on my purchases for the next couple months and if they offer free s/h, then I call them up. I've never had a problem getting the jungle to adjust and old price in the first couple months after a purchase.

Yes I did get credit on my purchase to account for today's price. I noticed the throat plate issue, the blade is very close to one edge of the opening. But it seems to me that a plate can be fabricated and the saw raised thru it with enough material left on the edge to serve as a zctp. Will be trying this soon. Also beware the mobile base that amazon links up with this saw is for unisaws which are 20 5/8" x 20 5/8" at the base. This sucker is about 22" inches in one direction and so will not fit on mobile base.

The Jungle has been running this saw at $685 quite often over the last month. I saw posted somewhere that they overstocked, and are finding that most buyers of big saws these days prefer the safer left-tilt models. Still a nice saw at a terrific price. Also, make sure you've got a 230V circuit available.

They probably would not enforce that on stock already produced, only on new production. It's not a defect, only a safety/design issue. I suppose if it leads to poor sales of older stock, there might be some inducement to cut the prices.

I bought that saw a year ago from Rockler. Paid $900. I like the saw. I also made a couple ZCTPs that work well. I did use a blade stiffener to shim the blade to the left, but I don't think it's needed.
I recently found out that I need an optional spindle (arbor adapter) to use a dado blade. It's $45 through Delta and comes with the dado throat plate only. I was told it only adds about $7 to the cost. I'm still happy even though I had to pay for the kit.
They explained that the saw is made for industrial use where typically each saw is set for a specific use so the end of the arbor is threaded to allow for different "spindles" to be attached.
BTW, I also found out that the saw is made in America, Brazil to be specific.

IIRC, I read that new models must abide by 2008, and existing models must be refitted by 2009.

New "Designed" Saws have to be fitted by 01/01/08.. Older "designed saws" aren't required to have riving knifes till Jan. 1. 2014. Any existing saw that exceeds the 2014 time-table is covered under the "grand-father clause" and won't require a riving knife period.

As quoted by the co-owner of Steel City, Scott Box in a conversation in my shop several weeks ago.
